Henry Durham a local grocer in Comanche owns 200 White Leghorn pullets plus sheep goats and a heifer on three and a fraction acres. His 200 hens produced 350 dozen eggs selling at 21 per dozen with total feed cost 819.95 for September and a profit of 53.55 from eggs and poultry sales.
Co. M. Caraway and Son's eleven shorthorns swept sixteen first prizes from seventeen possible at the Oklahoma State Fair last week. The herd travels to Tulsa and Dallas shows this week and next, with entries across Sedalia Missouri, Kansas City, Des Moines, Nebraska State Fair, Denver, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa. Several herd members have earned multiple grand championships and class titles. A junior yearling bull died of pneumonia in Lincoln Nebraska after winning his class at the Des Moines show.
Daniel Baker College faces Texas Wesleyan Rams in a Texas Conference game at Brownwood High School Stadium tonight. Hill Billies players Quinton Cauley Egbert Pate and Aubrey Wilhelm are listed for the game.
Sidney will host a mammoth one day Stock Show on Saturday October 22 after cancelling its annual fair due to winter freeze. All animals must be on grounds by 10:00 am and remain until 4:00 pm. Premiums awarded for first second and third. J B Cooper superintendent with committees named for finance dairy cattle beef cattle hogs judges and goat roping.
Mrs G R Tate and Mrs L V Tate and Peggy Jean Tate of Abilene join Mrs George Tate and family, Mr and Mrs J H Wilhelm of Comanche with Mr and Mrs E T Moore and kin from Indian Creek community for a Sunday gathering.
Comanche High School crushed Desdemona 32 to 0 in the conference opener. Key plays came from Cox Mahon and Fletcher with solid blocking from Guthrie McMillan and the line, despite four regulars missing. Desdemona managed only two first downs and 13 yards rushing.
About thirty raisers in Comanche County joined the Sheep and Goat Raisers Association of Texas on a Saturday meeting. The group provides a Texas Ranger to investigate wool and mohair thefts and a special prosecutor to aid prosecutions. Dues are 10 cents per wool or mohair sack marketed, with members listed by name.

The Gustine Community Club schedules a two day Peanut Festival starting Friday evening October 28 at the high school. Events include a negro minstrel, door prizes, parades, free programs, plate lunches, a band contest, speakers, baby contests with gold rings, a rodeo or goat roping contest, beauty queen coronation, and exhibits. Nut producers are urged to bring exhibits of edible work and canned goods.
Ira Clemens and Jim Martin closed a deal to acquire the Clark Motor Company the Ford Authorized Dealer. They succeed Oran Clark as owners and will run the business with years of experience. They announced a mammoth sale in ads elsewhere in this issue.
W. M. Thornton and son W. H. Thornton, visiting Comanche from Stamford, plan to open an implement and tractor business. They rented space in the Howard Motor Company building and expect to begin operations Monday. The brothers have sold Farmalls at Stamford and farmed near Big Spring, moving from Hamilton County about 20 years ago. They intend to relocate families to the area.
Elder Renis of Brownwood will lead Primitive Baptist services Sunday at Stage Creek as stated by Mrs. F B Chambers. Services also will be held Saturday with Elder Jack West of Cottonwood assisting.
Comanche Tuesday hailed as the world’s biggest direct from the farm peanut market with nearly half a million pounds bought in one day amounting to about 15 cars and roughly $15,000 paid to farmers. The Southwestern Peanut Growers Association, a government project, offered 94 cents for No 1 nuts and 88 cents for No 2s and bought large quantities while trucks arrived from up to 50 miles away. J W Carter Sr handles the association’s purchases and most nuts are stored in Comanche.
Comanche Indians travel to Hamilton for a tough district game after a 32 0 win over Desdemona Parkers. Star backs Pate and Carnes return with Mahon set to share carries. Bear returns at quarterback. Hamilton, 65 girl parade ready, has won two straight conference games and aims to upset.
Thirty members of the Rector Cunningham Post of the American Legion met with visitors at Lake Eanes for a Comanche stew and officer elections. J. H. Arthur was elected Commander with E. W. Sullivan as Vice Commander Jim Martin Adjutant Jack Moore Finance Officer and J. B. Allcorn Service Officer. The Auxiliary planned a poppy sale for November 11 and discussed Christmas charity work.
Ford Reed of Desdemona ranked among Parker supporters at the Parker-Indian game Friday night. Reed formerly resided in Comanche County at Hasse.
The Comanche County fall term begins next Monday with Judge Bates Cross presiding and District Clerk Ben Wilhelm retiring after this term. The grand jury will be empaneled, followed by the judge’s charge, with a civil and criminal docket expected to be light. attendance includes local teachers and civics classes. Grand jurors listed include A A Lam, Chas W Marshall, D L Truett, L W Fines, and others from Comanche and surrounding towns.
County Superintendent B Ray McCorkle announces all Comanche County schools are in session. The county has 40 districts but 29 operating schools with about 4700 enrolled after consolidations reduced from 75 schools. One and two teacher schools have fallen to three one teacher facilities.
Miss Iva Hart returns to work after a broken ankle and moves her office to the Higginbotham Building adjoining Sutton Dudley, across from the Comanche County Abstract office. She says the space is fixed up nicely and ready to serve the public.
R H Morgan of Comanche was the first to pay his 1938 city and school taxes after the collector opened on October 1. C A Greene was the first to pay his 1938 city poll tax. Jones reported city and school tax collections coming in fine with initial receipts around 975 dollars.
Tiffin Reed Jr a 16-year-old prize debater and winner of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce My Home Town contest will speak on The Cross Roads Which Will You Choose Saturday October 15 at p m A loud speaker will be set up at the band stand for all to hear this noted young orator.
Gustine High School held a student assembly on October 5 to form a student government for the coming year. Officials elected include President Oscar Carpenter, Vice President Loyd McGinnis, Secretary Anna Marie Bolton, and Reporter Martha Applewhite. The council features three seniors, two juniors, one sophomore, and one freshman, with Welton McGinnis as President and Sara Cotney as Secretary. Faculty sponsors are Supt. H. L. Miller and Principal D. A. Swope. The plan uses a demerit system and the council will judge disputed cases to foster school spirit and discipline.
