Highway 10 East Section In Comanche Completed
Hard surfacing of 2.75 miles of Highway 10 through Comanche was accepted by the State Highway Department. The triple asphalt surface sits on caliche and crushed rock and runs from Indian Creek Bridge to the Isham farm. Work began March 29, covered 105 days, with a contract total of 848,928.63. Austin Bridge Company of Dallas holds the contract for the next eastern section to the Erath County line, 175 working days at about 138,000 dollars.

Hijacking of Oil Truck Reported Near De Leon
Sheriff John Reese and Deputy W A Pate were alerted to a hijacking near De Leon after midnight Wednesday. Oil truck driver Frost said two men with a gun forced him to stop at Hill Top Service Station and steal 109 dollars before fleeing. He jumped from the moving truck and later rode with Lloyd Lightfoot. Frost’s truck was found abandoned two miles from De Leon.

Overturned Car Injures Oklahoma Couple
Mrs A J Gray and her husband were injured when their car overturned near Walts Oklahoma on a Sunday. Mrs Gray suffered more serious injuries while Dr Gray had a cut to the neck and other injuries to head and face. A passing motorist freed Mrs Gray from the wrecked auto. The couple were taken to Valliant by bus and treated by a physician before continuing by bus to Comanche. They had been vacationing at Caddo Gap Hot Springs Arkansas.

Peanuts Marketed Here Wednesday At 60 Cents A Bushel
The first locally harvested peanuts were brought in Wednesday by W. E. W. F. Loudermilk and bought by J. W. Carter, Sr. for shipment to the Bain Peanut Company in Fort Worth. The sprouted crop was sold for 60 cents per bushel after the rain.

Hasse School Secures WPA Grant and Loan
Final approval from Washington allocates $12,927 for Hasse School for gymnasium and teacherage. The package includes a $5,927 grant and a $7,000 loan announced Tuesday from WPA headquarters.

Gasoline Truck Destroyed In Blaze Near Logan's Gap
A Studebaker truck loaded with 390 gallons of gasoline and 2600 gallons of kerosene burned and exploded Saturday night at the Charles Polk farm home west of Logan's Gap near Highway 10. The fire started when a lantern touched unloading gasoline injuring the driver and Mr. Mooney of Dublin. Firefighters from Comanche responded. kerosene burned for hours but the Polk home and barns survived.

City Maintains 1.49 Tax Rate Despite Valuation Drop
The City Council kept the city tax rate at 1.49 dollars. Valuation fell from 1,524,894 to 1,482,289 largely due to the Cotton Belt Railway loss. Indians Tie Up With Desdemona High School

De Leon Fair Invites Comanche to Annual Fall Event
J. T. Edmondson secretary of the De Leon Chamber of Commerce extends an invitation to the Comanche people for the Fall Fair in De Leon Texas October 9 10 11 and 12. He recalls 1921 as the first fair and notes diversification efforts resulting in exports of farm crops beyond cotton and peanuts totaling two hundred fifty thousand dollars in mid 1930s. He mentions a farmer who exhibited fifty one varieties of farm products preserved for winter and invites attendance to celebrate the fair’s success.

Proctor men injured and killed in area crashes
R. J. Burton about 70 of Proctor was killed near the De Leon Gorman Highway when a car driven toward Gorman overturned after hitting a fence. McKelvey of Proctor was uninjured. Officers question how Burton’s fatal head and neck injuries occurred as funeral plans form. Also A. E. Sinclair of Proctor was found unconscious with a broken leg near Comanche and later hospitalized in Stephenville. police consider possible hit and run or hitchhiking incident.
