Peanut Field Day Slated at Tarleton

Comanche County peanut producers will travel October 9 to the Texas A and M Tarleton Experiment Station at Stephenville for a field day. The program starts at 1 p.m. with a Q&A and includes many booths where specialists will advise individual growers. Station Superintendent J S Newman will introduce speakers on topics of interest to peanut producers.

City Sets 1 Percent Sales Tax Election for Comanche

The Comanche City Council called a special election for Saturday November 1 to adopt a 1 percent sales tax on taxable purchases within city limits. Polls open at City Hall and all residents within the city may vote. The tax is expected to raise over $100,000 annually for city improvements including streets and water projects. Comanche joins Brownwood De Leon Hamilton Dublin and Stephenville in having the additional tax.

Fund Drive Launched For Dwayne Lackey by Local Youth Groups

Comanche County Young Farmers and Young Homemakers sponsor a fundraising drive for Dwayne Lackey and family amid medical bills. Dwayne, a former YF president from Comanche, had emergency surgery after a blood clot. Bake sale on Monday Oct 6 over KCOM and bank donations support the fund plus birthday auction led by youth members.

Rural youths honored at State Fair of Texas dinner

Linda Lu Lane and Arlene Adams, daughters of local families from Gustine, are among 45 outstanding rural youths invited to the State Fair of Texas Honor Award Dinner on Friday October 3 in the Shereton Dallas Hotel grand ballroom. Linda Lu, a Comanche High School graduate, was an outstanding Homemaking student and active in the Newburg 4 H Club. Arlene, a Gustine High senior, has earned a strong Homemaking record at Gustine School.

Starting November 16 1969 the 915 numbering plan will affect Comanche and Gustine with Gustine office 667. a temporary directory will route customers to new Gustine 667 while four trailing digits stay same.

Graham Lady Wins Football Contest

Mrs. G. A. Reid of Graham won first place and £5 in this week’s Comanche Chief football contest by missing only three games. Her husband won second place. Ruby Hall was second place by tie breaker and Gerald Langley third, each receiving a year’s subscription. Several contestants missed four games. entries spread to fifteen towns including Fort Worth and Little Rock, with a seven entrant increase.

Peanut Growers Vote to Organize in Texas

Texas peanut growers approved a commodity check off referendum by 84.2 percent, enabling organization for product promotion education research and disease and insect control under a new law. The results were certified by Ross Wilson and nine growers were chosen as a board to set program goals.
