Indians Aim For Coleman Comeback on Friday Night

Comanche travels to Coleman led by quarterback Tommy White who threw 22 of 23 for 318 yards last week as the Indians seek an upset on the road. Coleman, favored after big wins over Eagle Pass and Brady, features a wide open attack with Sal Andrade at fullback and Jolley’s coaching staff adjusting defenses. Ray Dudley is out for Comanche with a season ending injury.

Homemakers To Hold Convention Saturday in Abilene

The Area IV Association of Young Homemakers of Texas meets in Abilene on Saturday September 27 at the Starlight Inn for registration at 9 am, business session, luncheon, and a 1 30 pm general session with speakers from Lone Star Gas and Texas Tech. Dr W Clark Ellzey is keynote at the banquet and 21 chapters with about 450 members are noted. Comanche B team plays Blanket A Thursday at 7 30 pm with Cord Don Hodges in charge.

Deja Cheek Named To National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

Sidney's Deja Butch Cheek has been named a semifinalist in the 1969 70 National Merit Scholarship Program. Semifinalists, representing the nation’s top high school seniors, may compete for about 3,000 Merit Scholarships to be awarded in 1970. Cheek, son of rancher Oleja Cheek, excels in UIL science contests, serves as football tri-captain, editor of the annual, and holds leadership roles in the National Honor Society and Future Farmers of America.

Dingwall Celebration Draws 200 From 22 Towns

About 200 people from 22 Texas towns gathered Tuesday night at PAR Country Club to honor James C. Dingwall, Texas Highway Department official. Guests included highway workers, educators, two state senators, and Rep Lynn Nabors’ and Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes’ contingents. Dingwall spoke of highway funding, and gifts and honors were presented by colleagues and local leaders.
