Comanche Public Schools will hold two days off for Thanksgiving closing Thursday and Friday. Town offices and the Chief staff will observe the holiday with closures Wednesday afternoon through Monday morning.

Hernandez Joins City Police Force
Thomas Hernandez, 26, Vietnam veteran and Tarleton State alumnus, has been named to the Comanche Police Department by Chief Charles Anders. A National Guard member with Bronze Star and Air Medal, he lives on Lake Eanes Road and formerly worked at Ross Porta Plant in Brownwood.

Local Man Escapes Injury In Texas 16 Truck Crash
Comanche man Gene Bennett escaped serious harm when his truck trailer struck a cow seven miles north of Goldthwaite on Texas 16 and overturned. He received treatment at Childress Hospital for a hand laceration from shielding his face. About 40,000 pounds of shelled peanuts spilled. road crews cleared the scene. The truck and trailer were a total loss and the cow died.

Mrs Mary Wilkerson purchased the controlling interest in The Comanche Chief this week with the transfer effective December 31, 1974. Wm B Bill Wilkerson announced the sale of his share after 19 years with The Chief and 8 years as managing editor. The Chief will keep its staff and implement immediate policy changes.

Charges Filed In Brownwood Shooting On Commerce Square
Comanche man Jimmy Windham was charged Monday in Brownwood on two counts of assault after a shooting on Commerce Square parking lot about 1 00 am. Windham surrendered Monday night with attorney Keith Woodley and was arraigned with bonds set at 5000 each. J B Perry remained hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the stomach, and Robert Power was treated and released for a flesh wound after three men and a woman argued early on.

Two Die In Truck Wreck Near Comanche Underpass
A 30 year old Camp Wood trucker and his 29 year old wife were killed when their van type trailer overturned and burned on US 67 377 near Comanche West city limits. The couple, Billy Carrol Maxey and Mary Delia Maxey, were en route to Detroit with 800 to 1000 crates of tangerines. the trailer did not burn and the driver’s body was found first.
