Mrs. Mae Morgan Wins Final Football Contest

Mae Morgan of Route 1 De Leon won first place in the Comanche Chief football contest for the second time this year missing only one game. She edged John D. Hicks on the tie breaker while Donnie D. Hicks placed third. Several others earned honorable mention for missing two or three games. It closes with encouragement to support local basketball teams next season.

Comanche Indians in Dublin tournament and Maidens road trip

Comanche Indians under Coach Gene Westmoreland enter the Dublin tournament with opening game against the German Panthers at 11 30 AM Thursday. If they win they play at 5 30 PM Friday. losers meet at 11 30 AM Friday with Meridian or Priddy as possible opponents. Consolation and final rounds follow on Saturday. Maidens travel to Baird to face Knox City A and B on Thursday. Both teams host Stephenville next Tuesday with junior high games starting at 5 PM.

Local Methodist Church Seeks Donations for Alvin Knight

The First Methodist Church of Comanche sponsors a drive for Alvin Knight who underwent brain tumor surgery in Fort Worth. Knight and his wife Darla Conway Knight married a month ago and his mother died shortly after. Donations may be sent to the First Comanche Bank, the Comanche National Bank, or The First Methodist Church.

Comanche Community Hospital Names Human Relations Director

The hospital's Executive Committee hired H. David Moore of Arlington as coordinator of the new Department of Human Relations. Moore, a 1966 Comanche High School graduate, attended Sam Houston State University and UT Arlington and holds roles at LTV Federal Credit Union and Empire Park Corp. He plans to oversee hospital expansion and community relations without added property tax burden.

CHS Students Earn National Test Honors

Comanche High School sophomores Matthew Gaines Kristi McElroy and Kelly Waggoner placed highly in the National Educational Development Test. Gaines reached the 95th percentile with a score better than 98 percent of takers while McElroy and Waggoner hit the 92nd percentile. The sponsor Science Research Associates recognizes top 10 percent performers nationwide.

Pecan Bake Show Set for De Leon Saturday

The annual Comanche County Pecan Bake Show will be held Saturday in De Leon City Hall. Five food exhibit classes require pecans in entries, with cookies pies cakes nut bread and candy. Entries due by 9 30 a m and pickup 1 30 to 2 p m. includes a pecan centerpiece division.
