Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes announces plans to seek re election for 1970 saying the position offers the best opportunity to serve Texans. He had listed four possible paths including a Senate run or challenging Gov. Preston Smith, with retirement as another option. Continued on Page 2.
The 35th annual Comanche County Junior Livestock Show entry deadline is December 1. All Comanche County 4 H and 6 H members may enter, with an expected 359 head from Comanche De Leon Gustine Newburg Sidney and Soda Springs. There are eight divisions including Market Steers Lambs Swine Beef Heifers Dairy Heifers Breeding Sheep and Goat and Swine. Entry blanks are available from 4 H leaders vocational teachers or the county extension office. Mail fees and forms to Comanche County Livestock Assn P O Box 842 Comanche 76442 by December 1.
In addition to the all district selections, Ronnie Lancaster guard Max Parker OB and Rusty Brightman fullback were named to the honorable mention roster. All three are two year letter men and seniors.
Philip McDaniel of Route 1 Sidney won first place this week. Charles Hicks receives a seed piece and a subscription, the Hicks family earning a fourth win. Clint McEwin of Houston takes a year’s subscription as third prize. Honorable mentions include Richard Wicks Effie Biggs Clyde House John D Hicks FE WW Sullivan Joe Mora Buddie Hicks and George Walker.
Jess Kennedy escaped from Comanche County jail with a blade allegedly hidden on his girlfriend a Brownwood teenager. They were stopped near Altus Oklahoma and returned to Comanche after officers confirmed the escape. Kennedy faces jail break charges while the girl is charged with aiding an escape. Kennedy had prior burglary convictions and was awaiting transfer to a state penitentiary.
Frances Lockwood reports Trade Days start in Comanche the upcoming Saturday for the 1969 holiday shopping season. The Chamber cooperates with merchants under SHOP Comanche First with cash prizes of 50, 25, and 15 on the three Saturdays before Christmas.
Comanche Junior Highers will host Mastland Monday with the girls game at 6 50 p m followed by the boys contest.
