Most businesses in Comanche close for Thanksgiving except necessary services. Public schools, including county and city, observe the holiday. The big event is the football game at the local ball park between Comanche High School Indians and De Leon High School Bearcats, a long standing county staple.
Two Lamkin men will join Murray Cox on Radio Station WFAA Thanksgiving Day at 12 15 pm to discuss early soil conservation methods and farm matters in Comanche County. Edwin Pierson named general superintendent of the Comanche County 4 H Club and FFA Fat Stock Show set for January 20 at Comanche, with committees being formed for a successful event.
On Tuesday night December 2 an amateur musical contest will be held in the Lamkin School auditorium. Singers dancers instrumentalists and groups may enter with string bands and orchestras featured. Contact Mrs. Coda Baggett at Lamkin for details. attendance welcome for music lovers.

Ralph Spruill 19 of Route 1 Comanche suffered critical injuries when his car overturned several times on the De Leon Highway three miles north of Comanche. He remained unconscious for days, later conscious and improving as he prepared for transfer to Harris Methodist Memorial Hospital. He faces an eight to ten month cast period for multiple fractures and head injury.
A quick relish method mixes cranberries with two oranges and sugar to taste. Chill several hours for about a quart of relish. Keeps in the refrigerator for weeks and can be varied with apples carrots celery grapefruit or pineapple for post Thanksgiving leftovers.
The Sidney School announces its annual basketball tournament will be held December 4 and 5. Both boys and girls teams compete for the first-place trophy in two divisions. First game starts at 6 00 p.m.
Rev. Billie Joe Merritt of Howard Payne College Brownwood will preach at Gartman View Free Will Baptist Church in morning and evening services Sunday November 30. Merritt is a great grandson of the late Rev. R. B. Easley.

Mrs. Clyde Allen age 53 died at her home in the Hasse community after a month’s illness. Funeral services were planned for Tuesday at White Point with Rev. Rex Sellers officiating. Interment in White Point Cemetery. Survived by husband Clyde Allen eight children and numerous siblings and seventeen grandchildren.
Rev. R J Elkins pastor of the First Baptist Church Lamkin announces Fifth Sunday morning and evening services at the Lamkin church An ordination service by the deacons will be held in the afternoon Rev Elkins will preach at both morning and evening services.
Construction of a modern 18 730 dollar gymnasium for Gustine Public Schools is progressing toward a January 1 completion. Superintendent Russell reports walls and concrete done and most bleachers in place with steel beams pending. The 74 by 90 foot structure imitates the Proctor gym and is led by Carl Stevens. Residents approved a 16 800 dollar bond for the project.
M. T. Mason 60, longtime General Electric employee, died November 20 after a two week illness from heart trouble. Private funeral held November 21 at Comanche Funeral Home with interment in McCauley Texas. He was born January 31 1887 in Comanche County and survived by wife Brooksie Owen Mason and children Owen Mason and Marilyn Mason, plus brothers R E Mason B M Mason and Ed Mason and sister Gertrude Mason.
Bill Bennett of the Cactus Inn announces a 4 special turkey dinner at noon Thursday. The Tin will remain open all day and night, adopting the slogan We Never Close, operating weekdays Sundays and holidays.
