Local chairmen and quotas for the Sixth War Loan Drive are set across Comanche County. County War Finance Chairman Roland Miller notes corporate donors have already purchased bonds totaling 18 000 from Stephenville Production Credit Association Texas Power and Light and Fry Brothers.

Thanksgiving closure eyed for November 30 by merchants

Following a long tradition many Comranche stores will close Thursday November 30 to observe Thanksgiving. Mayor House backed the day, though no formal petition was circulated and merchants will decide individually. A Thanksgiving service is planned at the Presbyterian Church next Wednesday night.

Local cattleman Hardy Creamer celebrates 70th birthday

Native of Comanche County Hardy Creamer, 70, is pictured with his 2000 pound Hereford bull Sid and his herd of 35 cows on his 149 acre farm seven miles east of Comanche. He was born November 19 1874, son of the late Jasper Creamer, and has led a life mixing stock raising with stage lines and politics while hunting deer elk and turkey.

Lt Hope Promoted Near Aachen In Germany

Lt Lannes Hope receives battlefield promotion from second lieutenant to first lieutenant while serving with the 745th Tank Battalion near Aachen Germany. The promotion comes after his service in the first American Army and his prior action entering Paris. His wife Peggy Durham confirms the rank change. He has overseas service of about a year.

Lacos Buys North Side Cafe In Comanche

Clarence Skaggs, a former local cafe man, bought the North Side Cafe from B. H. Briscoe this week and renamed it Skaggs' Cafe. Skaggs returns to the restaurant business in Comanche after a fire destroyed his prior cafe about six weeks earlier and invites former customers and Briscoe’s patrons to visit the new location. Briscoe plans are not yet announced.

Comanche Corporal In First Tank Group To Enter Germany

Cpl. Collier Pope of the Tank Corps attached to General Hodee's First American Army has been in Germany for weeks and fought near Aachen. He recalls crossing into Germany with the first troops and describes daily rain and knee deep mud. He longs for home in Central West Texas near a pie oak tree in the square.

Soldier of the Month Barrett praise at Stout Field

Sgt. Thelma B. Barrett of Comanche Texas named Soldier of the Month for October at Stout Field Indiana headquarter I Troop Carrier Command. She is cited for diligent duties neat appearance barracks upkeep and cooperation with base and squadron regulations. An Army band from Camp Bowie and three wounded veterans from McKloskey General Hospital will join a Bond Rally and GI Jamboree at the courthouse Monday night to aid the Sixth War Loan Drive.

Sgt Wesley Tyson Phillips, a radio operator in charge of a beach radio tower, received the Good Conduct Medal. He is the son of Mr and Mrs O B Phillips of the a mong community and has been overseas about eleven anne. Since deployment, the only Comamsiche boys he has seen are Johnny Moore and Howard Cleere.
