City Tax Collections Rise While School Tax Slips
Tax payments for the new year up to Tuesday morning show the city at 2,955.00 versus 9.08 last year according to Hardie, with total city collections this year 21,845.85 and prior year 22,622.00 including delinquent taxes. Independent School District receipts total 2,699.08 against 3,053.00 a year ago, with total assessed year 16,467.45 and last year’s total including delinquent taxes at 18,378.87.

Turkey raisers in Comanche territory earned about 30000 from Farmers Produce and Cheese Plant for turkeys sold on the Thanksgiving market. The firm shipped twelve car loads averaging 20000 pounds each to Eastern and Northern markets at fourteen cents and over per pound.

Churches Plan Union Thanksgiving Service Next Wednesday
The Central Christian Methodist Church of Christ and Presbyterian churches plan a union Thanksgiving service at the High School Auditorium next Wednesday night at 7 30 o clock. More than 150 people from the four churches will participate with school choruses and a town choir delivering several numbers. A hour of prayer and praise will follow with congregational singing and communal gratitude for blessings received.

Two More New Homes Started In Comanche
Construction of two new houses began this week in Comanche for Mrs. Bob Allen and Mr. and Mrs. F E Adams. The Allen home on Post Office street will be a five room frame with W H Godfrey as contractor. The Adams home lies in the town’s north and adjoins the J R Eanes and M Cook properties, a four room white frame. Also nearing completion is the Comanche Funeral Home, set to be ready by January first.

Red Cross Ball Call Campaign Still Underway
Comanche's annual Red Cross membership drive has been underway for nearly two weeks and more than $190 has been paid in the city. The campaign runs through Thanksgiving Day November 30 as Mrs John Reese chairs the committee and urges uncontacted residents to donate at the bank or via committee members. County Collector figures show October tax receipts reaching 37,951.60, over six times October 1938, due to a 3 percent October discount. With discount reduced to 2 percent this month, payments declined but a rush is anticipated before December 1 discount drop to 1 percent. November 20 payments totaled 12,166.95, about four times last year. Split payment plan deadline is November 30, with Thanksgiving closing on November 29, and final June 20, 1940 payment without penalties for plan participants.

Creamer Fires 220 Yard Shot For Ten Point Buck
Hardy Creamer of Comanche bagged a ten point buck in Gillespie County between Fredericksburg and Llano last week. He used a 22 high powered Savage rifle to shoot at about 220 yards. The buck weighed 109 pounds and was taken in the Erkerardt pasture with his sons Wardell Barney and J. C. Creamer present.

Waring Returns Home With Two Bucks From Hunt Near Austin
John D. Waring of the State Highway Department returned to Comanche with two deer killed near Austin. He used a Crag Winchester automatic army rifle and fired three shots, hitting two bucks. Five Highway Department colleagues from Austin joined the hunt, and Waring narrowly missed matching the group’s total by one deer.
