Youth Goes To Trial On Murder Charge Nov 27

Henry P. Haynes 23, confesses to killing his grandmother Mrs Artha McGuire 79 and uncle B Haynes 58 and burning their bodies at the McGuire farm home. Grand jury returns two indictments for malice murder. Judge assigns hundred-man jury for November 27. Defense appointed but unavailable. Trial follows a written confession and disputed family quarrel over farm sale.

Ministers Return After Fort Worth Conference Session

The Central Texas Conference adjourned at Fort Worth Sunday afternoon with Rev. E R Gordon and Rev H J Sanders reappointed to another year at Comanche. W Williams named District Superintendent of the Brownwood District and J S Duffey assigned to the Comanche Mission.

Pride of the West Texas Court House Razed for New $195000 Building

Comanche County court house, once West Texas pride, began demolition from the top down with 56 workers on site and 116 enrolled for the WPA project. Officials say razing to the foundation will finish by next Wednesday, with two to three days for cleanup and two more weeks for foundation teardown. Minimum wage noted at 2.60 dollars per day.

Proctor School Girl Killed in Fall From Truck

Ruth Coulter a 15 year old Proctor High School student died after being thrown from a pickup near Dublin Mills. Her sister Gladys 17 suffered an arm injury and Pauline Smith 18 rode in the truck. Interment was at White Point Cemetery with Rev L D Hornburg officiating. She is survived by parents J K Coulter and multiple siblings.

Lions Club Turns Boy Scouts For A Night

Comanche Lions Club members hosted Boy Scout games at a bi weekly luncheon on Ridgeway Avenue Tuesday. Scoutmaster G N Quirk of Brownwood led the Crow Patrol versus the Owl Patrol in a contest style event with Harry Mark Cauley as guest. The club voted to entertain Comanche High School football squad with a banquet at season end.

Presbyterian Church Revival In Progress

Considerable interest is shown in the revival now in progress at the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Mr. Owen preaches helpful sermons and invites the community to worship each evening at 7 30. Friday features a youth service with High School Choral Club music. The meeting closes Sunday night.

Santa Fe Cuts Passenger Fares in Texas

A five percent round trip coach fare cut on the Santa Fe Railway will take effect December 15. A C Ater general passenger agent said the reduced rate drops rail travel to 1.8 cents per mile the lowest in years and should boost passenger traffic for Santa Fe and other lines. The cuts follow a recommendation of the Western Association of Railway Executives and apply to all lines in the territory.
