S A Barnes a former Comanche resident celebrated her 92nd birthday in Abilene with family from Houston Dallas Merkel and Sipe Springs. Grandchildren and friends joined a Comanche County noon dinner two birthday cakes were cut and shared as Mrs Banner’s life story was recalled from Georgia to Texas to Merkel and Abilene with husband J L Banner, a Baptist minister.

Mrs. Mattie Preston 74 widow of Joe Preston died Friday November 15 at 9 p.m. at her home in Comanche County after a heart attack. Funeral services were held Sunday at Comanche Funeral Home with Lambrides, pastor of the Piat Busciet Church, officiating. Interment followed at Cox Cemetery. She was born Mattie Steele in Comanche County and raised in Sidney. Surviving children are Lee and Euell Preston of Comanche, Jewell Woodcock of Brownwood, and Ollie Preston of Blanket, with fourteen grandchildren. Brothers and sisters include Charlie Burt Rob Steele of Comanche George Steele of Dallas and Mrs. Reeder of Sidney.

Zack Hulsey born April 9, 1863 in Rocamart Georgia died Monday morning November 11 1946 at age 83 with Interment at Downing Cemetery. Services will be held November 12 with Owen Freeman of De Leon Church of Christ officiating. He left a widow Etta Rigsly and ten children with many grandchildren great grandchildren surviving.

Margie Jean Grumbles, six year old daughter of Mrs. B Howerton of Comanche, suffered severe injuries when her clothes ignited while she played in the yard. Dr J O Lane said the burns covered a large area but were first degree, causing much pain.

Comanche Band Mothers Club has raised over 635 since September to outfit a 75 member uniformed band, with about 100 more members needing uniforms. Donations from the Roping Club and Comanche Funeral Home supported meals at concession stands run at football games and the Quarter Horse Show. The Community Public Service Company provided ice for drinks.

San Angelo Man Killed in Wreck Near Erath Line
Lawrence Tillotson Jr., 29, of San Angelo, died after a head on collision Friday night on the Comanche Dublin highway near the Erath County line. The Army major driven car and several others were injured. Tillotson served in the Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. He is survived by his widow and two daughters.

Negro truck driver jailed for fatality of UT student
Henry Jefferson, 36, a Houston Negro truck driver, received one year in county jail for negligent homicide in the Oct 26 death of Earl Henry Smart, UT student and Rice football travel companion. Jefferson admitted striking something near the South Main underpass but said he did not know a person was hit. Evidence tied loose boards to his truck bed. the verdict follows maximum allowed for negligent homicide. Mrs. Smart attended the courtroom as jurors returned the verdict.

Edward Joseph Miller 68 longtime Brownwood lawyer and judge died in a Brownwood hospital after a brief heart attack. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church with burial in Greenleaf Cemetery. Miller, born December 13 1877 in Sabine Parish Louisiana, served as 35th District judge and was elected associate justice of the Court of Civil Appeals Eastland district. He had planned to take office January 1 1947.
