Armistice Day Parade Draws Large Local Crowd

A big crowd attended Monday’s Armistice Day parade sponsored by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Colors were carried on horseback by Roy Dabney County Clerk-elect and ex Army sergeant Fane Waldrop VFW commander Margaret Ann Tate and others. Thomas Flannagan led a platoon of ex servicemen with about twenty veterans in uniform. Comanche High School’s 75 member band directed by M T Camp provided music.

Indians Defeat Dublin 19 to 0 in Armistice Tilt

Comanche High School beat Dublin 19 to 0 on Armistice Day before the second largest crowd of the season. Rippetoe scored twice on ten yard pass and 35 yard interception return, Samuels set up the final score, and Hicks capped it with a plunge. Layman Phifer and Mazurek star on the Indian line as Whitey Morris coaches the season debut.

Native Comanchean D. H. Cunningham Dies at 72

D H Cunningham 72 of Comanche died in a German hospital after a stroke. Funeral at Church of Christ with R C Ledbetter officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. He was descended from early Comanche County pioneers and left behind a wife Margaret Roberts and children Herbert Margaret Craddock Paul and Robert plus five grandchildren and siblings. He served as State Livestock Sanitary Commission chairman in 1915 before returning to ranching and later worked as Southern sales manager for Chipman Chemical Engineering.

Plans Underway For Comanche Golf Course And Country Club

In Comanche district court room, enthusiasts formed a group to plan a golf course and country club. Pat Cagle was elected temporary chairman with committees to locate grounds and estimate costs for a course and clubhouse. No membership drive yet, but aims for at least 100 charter members. inquiries at the local Chamber of Commerce.

The Comanche Braves B team defeated the De Leon Bearkittens B squad 19 to 9 in De Leon. James Level intercepted a Bearkitten pass for a 60 yard return and Gayle Odell added the extra point. Pepper Vineyard scored twice and John Clayton caught a 35 yard pass for the final score.

Local Comanche Man Buys Panhandle Oil Agency

T R Bill Atwood of Comanche has purchased the Panhandle Refining Company Agency from W O Keel and Son and now runs the business. He left a civil service post as an accountant at Brooke General Hospital to buy the agency and aims to serve the community with the new venture. He is a Comanche native, high school graduate, and formerly worked for Texas Power and Light and Camp Bowie.

Comanche Hosts First Annual Quarter Horse Show

Comanche's first annual Quarter Horse Show drew entrants from across the state and proved successful. Peppy's Pepper, owned by Loyd Jinkens of Fort Worth, was grand champion stallion with a $15,000 offer reportedly on the table. Snooper, owned by Carl Andrews of Granbury, won grand champion mare. Judges included S. A. Kirby Electra Punk Snyder Melvin Jerre B. Barnes Electra, with Ed Bateman of Knox City among about 1500 spectators. Gold plated miniature horses donated by Comanche Roping Club and eight bronze miniatures awarded to division winners. Jinkens praised the event as highly competitive, spurring plans for a bigger show next year led by Earl Albin.

Marion Wilkerson Dies Sud­denly At Home

Marion Wilkerson prominent Comanche businessman died in his sleep at home Thursday morning after helping with peanut harvest the day before. He previously ran a Federal Farm Loan Association and later worked in real estate, loans, and insurance. Survived by wife Mamie Bonner a son and daughter in law Danforth Wilkerson and a granddaughter and sister Miss Cora Wilkerson.
