In Comanche County women are urged to lead payroll and income savings enrollment for War Bonds by New Year’s Day. Comanche County weighs more than 20 million pounds of peanuts this fall with a single day total over 500000 pounds. The Southwest Peanut Growers Association ships 28 car loads this week while about 2400000 pounds wait at the Denny Warehouse. Comanche leads the state with more than 90000 planted acres and the Durham Pecan and Peanut Company runs at full capacity shipping daily.
A large gathering of gasoline retailers and wholesalers is set for Monday evening November 23 at 8:00 in the County Court Room. An OPA representative will explain mileage rationing rules and answer questions.
Col Claude K Rhinehart of the Dallas Recruiting and Induction District declares rumors that voluntary enlistments are stopped are false. He notes ongoing intensive recruiting, emphasis on 18 and 19 year olds, and a demand for technicians across Air Forces and Signal Corps, including Camp Claiborne La unit needs such trades as blacksmiths electricians and riggers.
The Comanche County Board selected men passed Army physicals in Abilene and left for Camp Wolters at Mineral Wells on November 17 except Woodrow W. Mallonee who joined Camp Barkeley at Abilene. Reverend R. M. McGinnis will preach at Shilo Church Thanksgiving morning at 11 o'clock. A noon dinner on the ground will follow. Everyone is invited and asked to bring a well filled basket.

Comanche businesses will close for Thanksgiving day November 26, as announced. banks post office and rural routes will be closed. Merchants who signed to close on Armistice Day repeat the closure this holiday.
Mr and Mrs Albert Barnes and daughter Billie were among Comanche football fans at the Texas TCU game at Horned Frog Stadium in Fort Worth Saturday.
Comanche County outlines a large scrap metal and rubber drive led by the REA cooperatives serving Comanche Eastland Mills Brown and Stephens counties. Major E L Glazier and A C Thomas urge donations or sales of scrap to the Army Red Cross or dealers. Officials estimate 20 million pounds of scrap reside with farmers along REA lines as the drive aims to collect as much as possible for the war effort.
Henry A. Huffman of Comanche a second lieutenant in the U S Marine Corps has been assigned to active duty with a combat unit of the Leathernecks announced from Atlanta. He was commissioned recently and completed a ten weeks officers training course at Quantico Va and left Comanche for the West Coast after a furlough with relatives.
