Navy Recruit Coker Joins Great Lakes Training

A. J. Coker Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Coker of Comanche, has joined the U S Navy and is undergoing preliminary training at the Great Lakes Training Station. The 1942 Comanche High School graduate was a star football player from 1938 to 1941, twice earning all district fullback honors and co captain of the 1941 bi district champions.

Lions Triumph in Armistice Day Clash for District Title

Dublin Lions, led by Looney at 165 pounds, defeated the Co manche Indians 13-0 to clinch the District 12-A erid title. Looney scored two Lions touchdowns, an 18 yard rush in the second quarter and a 25 yard run to cap the fourth. The Indians managed only one first down as Dublin rolled up 13 points.

Comanche County Ballot Totals From November 3 General Election

An estimated 1200 votes were cast in Comanche County with Perry St Clair winning the sheriff race at 1184 votes. Other results show W Lee O Daniel leading for U S Senate in the county, Coke Stevenson carrying Governor, and several state constitutional amendments defeated locally. The John Tarleton Building and other measures drew mixed support as Texas totals approached half a million votes.

WPA Scrap Drive Closes In County

W P A trucks will be moved to other counties and scrap collection ends in Comanche County until January. Project supervisor Brooks B Mc Pherson notes rural holiday season. return to county early 1943. Total scrap collected exceeds 600 000 pounds with 591 374 pounds metal and 8 915 pounds rubber. Army from Camp Bowie offers truck and driver to transport scrap to dealers and to load and haul donated scrap. contact County Judge H H Lockridge to arrange. Local dealers will continue buying scrap and the move is not a general cessation of collection.

Rev J M Wynne Dies At Conference In Texas

Rev J M Wynne of Waxahachie former pastor of the Comanche Methodist Church from 1924 to 1927 died at Cisco while attending the Central Texas Conference session. Funeral services were held in Waxahachie. He is survived by his widow and several children including Mrs Graham Smoot. He had retired from active pastoral work a year ago.

Rev. R. B. Hooper, longtime Fort Worth clergy, is appointed pastor of the First Methodist Church of Comanche at the Central Texas Conference session in Cisco. He arrives with wife to make their home. their two sons live in Houston and Palestine. Hooper has 28 years of pastoral service with earlier posts in Corsicana District, Gorman, Midlothian, Ballinger, Olney, and Fort Worth churches.

New Rationing Dates Set For County Schools In Texas

Fifteen Month Old Beatrice Limmer Drowns

Beatrice Faye Limmer fifteen months died Saturday in a water trough near Priddy. Her brother Harold found the body after the family searched. Physicians failed to revive her. Funeral services were held at Zion’s Lutheran Church. Survived by parents Mr. and Mrs W W Limmer two brothers Clayton and Harold one sister Hertha and grandparents Mr. and Mrs John Schlee and Mr. and Mrs F P Limmer.
