Improvement of Rangelands Aids Livestock And Wildlife
Ronnie Boston of the Soil Conservation Service notes that rangeland improvements through brush control and reseeding provide more grass for livestock and cover for wildlife. The Gayle Rippetoe farm near Newburg shows a winter 1970 effort to remove mesquite with cost share under the Great Plains Conservation Program, reseed, and leave trees for shade and wildlife. The result is a richer forage mix and enhanced countryside scenery, with Texas croton and rangweed aiding wildlife while grasses establish. Lake Dallas residents Catherine Cunningham and Mrs Karen Hughes along with Jack Carter of San Antonio were mentioned in social notes.
