Comanche High School Indians, slight favorites, meet Dublin Lions in the Armistice Day clash from 2 PM Monday November 11. Dublin seeks breaking a seven loss season while Comanche aims for a first conference win under coaches Whitey Morris and Tim Daughtery. John Dyer, longtime head man, resigned November 9 to join the V A in Amarillo. A large crowd is expected for the Dublin versus Comanche tilt with key players Biggs Hicks and Mas as backs.

Jolink couple announce birth of son Gray Byron

Mr and Mrs John Jolink of Comanche announce the birth of a 7 pound 2 ounce son Gray Byron born Monday morning November 4 at a Fort Worth hospital. Mother and baby doing well and to return home next week. Gray Byron is the grandson of Mrs Tom Dudley Comanche.

VEW Armistice Day Program Set Here

Pam Waldrop commander of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post announces VEW sponsorship of an Armistice Day program Monday morning. The parade leads with the Comanche Band at 10, a band concert follows, a drill team exhibition on the square, and services at First Baptist Church at 11. Merchants with parade entries should notify him.

Methodist Ministers Are Returned Here

Rev. J. W. Whitefield, back from Mid-Jothian, was reassigned to First Methodists as the official board voted for his return. Rev. John W. Tickner remains on the Comanche Methodist Circuit. Rev. R. L. Bowman of Comanche returns on the De Leon Circuit. Rev. O. A. Morton, former pastor and father of Mrs. Paul Whitton, is named pastor of the Gustin Lamkin charge.

190 To Take Part In Band Parade At Nov 11 Game

One hundred ninety Comanche Public School band students from 5th grade up will participate in half time activities during the Armistice Day football game between Dublin and Comanche on Monday afternoon November 11. Groups include Fifth Grade Beginners Band Grade School Band Junior Band and Senior Band with a total enrollment of 190 students.

National Quartet to Sing at Comanche County Convention

The National Quartet from Fort Worth will perform Friday night November 8 at Victory Baptist Church for the Comanche County Singing Convention. Robert B. Arnold, the quartet’s director, says the group is known for old time gospel singing and appears daily on KFJZ Fort Worth.

Comanche Businesses To Close For Armistice Day

Most Comanche firms that close on Sundays will stay shut Monday November 11 for Armistice Day per Chamber of Commerce president John D Waring. A petition to close was circulated and signed by interviewed businesses though rain limited outreach.

Lake Eanes rose about two feet during the recent rains, according to Lake Caretaker Roy J. Peace. City officials estimate that if normal rainfall continues through winter, a sufficient water supply will last until spring.

Scratch Ed Scores on Lateral for Frogs Runback

Texas Christian University line star Scratch Ed, 215 pounds, scored on a goal line runback after taking a lateral from tackle Heilman who had intercepted Oklahoma. Ed previously served at NTAC in 1943, Southwestern in 1944, and Camp Lejeune in 1946. his home is Comanche.

The Smith Heath Post of the American Legion in De Leon hosts a county wide World War veterans celebration on November 11. A 10:00 parade starts the day, followed by an 11:00 ceremony and a noon stew to feed all veterans and their families.

Grand Jury Returns Fifteen True Bills Here

The district court grand jury adjourned after nine days and returned fifteen true bills. They examined 102 witnesses and reported 15 felonies with no misdemeanors. They urged better parent child cooperation, criticized bad check prosecutions used as collections, and noted jail repairs and heating needs. They thanked local officers and requested discharge.

Garden Club Rummage Sale Extends One More Day

Comanche Garden Club will hold a final rummage sale on Saturday November 9 to close remaining items with proceeds aiding a City Park project. First Annual Comanche Quarter Horse Show Scheduled

Interest runs high as Comanche hosts the first annual Quarter Horse Show on Saturday November 9 drawing 75 to 100 registered horses from the area. Earl Albin of the Comanche Roping Club says entries come from twenty county owners with eight divisions for age and gender. Proceeds aid the Band Mothers Club funding band uniforms and instruments. a grand champion and reserve winners receive miniature Quarter horses as prizes. Band members will parade downtown Saturday at 11 AM to promote the show.
