La Chalupa Cafe, at 1003 Fast Central in the former La Rosa’s site, opens Friday in Comanche. Operators Bruna Estrada and Stella Paredes, both of Sidney, plan a formal opening later. Hours 6 am to 10 pm daily except Wednesday and Sunday 11 pm.

CHS Maidens Cancel First Two Games

Comanche Indian Maidens under coach Leta Andrews shift to a 30 player pool as they work toward a season. They cancel the opener with Gatesville and the Dublin game on November 22 due to football conflicts and will travel to Crawford on November 25 for their first match.

Comanche School Board Approves Textbook Committee and School Expansion

The Comanche School Board met on November 11 and approved minutes and bills, formed a 15 member Textbook Committee, and discussed adding two classrooms to the Elementary School with bids to be drawn up. They noted 109 first grade students, 40 full day kindergartners, 32 half day, and a planned expansion to include restrooms and enhanced services. Enrollment rose to 1,172 with a $120,000 time deposit at 10 percent.

Ladies Take Grid Contest Winners Split Prizes in De Leon

The Comanche Chief football pool saw sixteen correct picks of twelve. Tie breakers and hats drew two De Leon ladies Mae Morgan and Mrs Ed Glover Jr to share two top prizes of four dollars each while Charles Kolb and Lurene Hicks missed the tie breaker by three and Kolb was drawn to win two dollars. Others receiving honorable mention include Lee Farley and several local residents.

Indians Host Eastland Friday Night Showdown

Comanche will host Eastland at Indian Memorial Stadium at 7 30 for the final regular game of the season. The Indians seek to protect their No 3 state AA rating after clinching the district title with a ninth win. Eastland has forged a strong late push, including a 7 6 win over Clyde. Starting for Comanche are Armstrong Waggoner Williams Holland Pinkerton Lester Bingham Sanchez Richey Mitchell and Biggs on offense with West and Williams at linebackers and Strube Schuman Armstrong in the backfield. Seniors in their last regular game include Lee Wilhelm Williams Waggoner Lester Bingham McDougal Armstrong Mitchell Sanchez.

Jail Break Mystery Shocks Comanche County

Comanche jail inmate Paul Sammons 19 escaped last Saturday from a secured cell after allegedly passing through three steel doors. Sheriff Gaston Boykin said Sammons may have had door lock assistance or found an unlocked route. Sammons, jailed on a motion to revoke a two year probated sentence for forgery, is AWOL from the Army and was arrested November 5 at a relative’s De Leon home. The sheriff downplayed danger and pledged no broad search, expecting Sammons to reappear for capture.

Gustine Senior Chili Supper Serves Homecoming Event

The Gustine Senior Class hosts a chili supper from 5 to 7 PM and after the May game. Adults pay 1.50 and children under 12 pay 75 cents, with chili beans tea coffee and dessert included. Halftime at the Homecoming Game features Queen Spirit Sweetheart and Player of the Year honors.

Comanche will face no first round opponent yet as District 10AA remains in a three way tie among Bowie Jacksboro and Decatur with one loss each. Bowie's upcoming game with Nocona and possible coin toss could decide the district representative with a Breckenridge meeting for CHS if Jacksboro wins. Comanche Texas hosts a Bicentennial planning meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday November 19 in the Texas Power and Light Hospitality Room. The Heritage Club invites representatives from churches clubs and civic groups in Comanche County to discuss plans for the 200th birthday celebration.
