The Comanche Indians, rated number three in Class AA, clinched the 9-AA District Championship with a Friday win to secure undisputed first place. They have one regular game left, idle this week, hosting Eastland on November 15 before the state playoffs.
Comanche records nine victories finishing with wins over Granbury De Leon San Saba Dublin Coleman Hamilton Cisco Breckenridge and Clyde. District rivals include Hamshire Fanner Crockett Buna and Laredo United teams with Jacksboro Decatur Bowie and Northwest among upcoming matchups. Notable players listed with weights include Armstrong West Schuman Waggoner Davis Holland Williams and Richey among others.
The Evening Lions Club celebrates its 50th anniversary since February 24 1924 with 72 charter members and about ten original members remaining. Lions International now totals 1 061 855 members in 27 586 clubs across 146 countries. The Comanche junior teams are idle this week while 7th grade Paps travel to Stephenville for a 5 30 kickoff and 8th grade Warriors also play there. It will be the final game of the season for both squads as part of a two game bill.
The First Baptist Church announces Revival Week from November 10 to 17 with Rev. Kenneth Vaughan preaching and Mrs. Kenneth Gibson leading music. Luncheon devotionals run noon Monday through Friday, plus an early morning coffee devotional. Celebration Sunday caps the week with a goal of 418 in Sunday School attendance.
Superintendent H R Jefferies reports Governor Office data showing wide funding disparities among Texas school districts from Rio Grande Valley to Andrews. He notes proposed state funding reforms and a possible sales tax shift, while warning revenue needs exceed billions. A December release on the foundation program is anticipated.
The Parent-Teachers Club invites all to a 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. meeting on Thursday November 7 in the elementary school cafeteria. The program highlights elementary students and teachers with a film and a fourth and fifth grade musical. No officers or funds. Refreshments and visiting conclude at 8:15 p.m.
