Last Wednesday night the local Methodist church held a record making prayer meeting with 104 attendees. Comanche church also holds the Dublin district record for large prayer gatherings, a tribute to the pastor and congregation.
Fire consumed the home of Nuge Cloud Sunday afternoon as Mrs. Cloud cooked supper. Heat from a front room, apparently starting near a bed, gutted the room and spread to the house. A cigarette likely caused the blaze. the family lost all possessions and cash, and did not save Mr. Cloud's cat who was away.
A group of town churchwomen met at the Methodist church to organize fundraising for Armenian relief. Miss Annie Sheppard heads the drive, with a mass meeting planned soon to finalize details, as they emphasize aiding suffering families in war-torn Europe.
Comanche High School blanked Brownwood High School 14 to 0 after a dominant first quarter. Marion Bayou forwards, led by Woodward and Reeves, early connected on rapid passes and long runs to set the pace, with Woodward’s 52 yard TD and subsequent kick extending the lead as Brownwood struggled to respond.
A Wesleyan Bible Class Halloween event at the Majestic drew both genders to a campus party. Captains Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Artis led teams to castle venues, with spooks, witches, and a magic show. Guests enjoyed a supper of sandwiches and chocolate before dispersing for rest.
The Grand Jury reports 12 days of session with 18 witnesses examined and 63 indictments issued including 22 felonies and 41 misdemeanors. It commends district and county attorneys, notes four riding bailiffs, and requests jail heating repairs. TheWest Ward school held a tea last week to raise funds for a library. Miss Georgia Robertson and assistants Mae Hall, Amelia Scott, Lea Allen, Myrtle Paine and Alma Robinson organized engaging programs across rooms. A neat sum was raised and a parent teacher association formed to improve school conditions.
The Western Union Telegraph Company adds a messenger boy to the local Comanche office to improve service. Miss Kittie Robinson previously served as operator, praised for her excellent work. The move follows past efforts by the Y M B L to secure a messenger. Slider and Lacy advertise ladies coats and coat suits.
Comanche will gain a new up to date gents' furnishing store replacing C R M Dudley on the west side of the square. Jim D Slack will manage offering hats shirts suits and shoes with stock from Looney's Men's Store of Brownwood backing his venture. The move is welcomed and Slack is praised for his enterprise.
