Castle Ellis Becomes New Owner Of Local Insurance Agency

Castle Ellis and Lucille Ellis announce the lease of the Iva agency in Comanche effective June 1. The office at 105 South Houston Street will be managed by Mrs. Nellie Mae Clark until August 1 when Mrs. Castle Ellis joins, with Mr. Ellis continuing as Higginbotham Insurance Company manager. The agency will write all lines of general insurance and seeks to extend service to the public. Six Comanche churches join regional Civic Righteousness Field Day on June 2 sponsored by the Texas Alcohol Narcotic Education organization with Dr J Howard Williams and Dr Albert Tucker among organizers and speakers. Rev Glen Beles of TANE will address First Baptist Church Sunday morning.

Pension Club Meets Saturday in Comanche Courthouse

Homecoming at Van Dyke on June 9

The annual Van Dyke Homecoming will be Sunday June 9 at the Community School House. A basket lunch is served at noon. The program begins at 11 with a message by Rev A Brooks. Visiting singing and a program by descendants of former students follow in the afternoon.

Dean Gardner Named Districts Conservation Farmer of the Year

Dean Gardner of the Round Grove community five miles northeast of De Leon has been honored as the 1957 Outstanding Farmer in the Upper Leon Soil Conservation District. A former member of the district board, he has led local conservation efforts through terracing rye and vetch crops and irrigation improvements that boosted peanut yields to over 60 bushels per acre on irrigated land.

Dorcus Brown Loses Post After 20 Years as Principal

Dorcus D. Brown 55 longtime principal of the local elementary school died May 25 after a heart attack. He served 31 years in teaching including 28 at Comanche schools and was principal of J. B. Layne Elementary at his death. Funeral services were held at First Methodist Church with burial at White Point Cemetery.
