Herman Rauhut a long time cotton ginner purchased the Kight Gin in Comanche from H L Kight interests. Rauhut plans to resume gin operations this fall offering seed and ginning services. The Kight gin built in 1937 sits near Indian Memorial Stadium in Comanche and is reported in first class condition.
Three Comanche County women, Mrs. Tom Dudley Mrs. Bill Parks and Mrs. Troy Pettit, are serving on the Federal petit jury in Fort Worth. The panel includes thirty six people with three other women among the jurors.
Comanche County Quartet Singing Convention set for Newburg Baptist Church on Friday June 7 at 8 o clock with local singers performing.
Dr. Thomas A. Williams, a 32 year old West Virginia native and World War I veteran, begins an internship at Blackwood Mims Hospital in Comanche after June. He earned pre med at West Virginia University and graduated from Kansas City College of Osteopathy & Surgery on June 3. He is single, Presbyterian, and a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge. Hospital owners Blackwood and Mims praised his qualifications and fit for the community.
P. T. Galiga, long time coach of Hillsboro Eagles and former coach of Co Manche India from 1952 to 1954, resigns to take the head mentor role with the Killeen Kangaroos. Hillsboro competes in Class 2-A while Killeen plays Class 3-A.
Charlie Floyd 65 of De Leon was charged with murder without malice after his car struck Susan Morgan 5 in front of her De Leon home. The incident killed Susan Monday. Floyd waived preliminary hearing and is jailed in Comanche County. The case may go before a grand jury in October. Funeral services for Susan were held at the First Methodist Church.
Dr Dowdey Sudderth son of Grady and Mrs Sudderth who earned an M D from the University of Texas Medical College at Galveston on May 30 and will intern at Detroit Memorial Hospital also opens a law office at 109 W Grand in Comanche with partner Ben Sudderth a 1953 UT law graduate. The Sudderths plan to reside at 707 N Elm and are Baptists. They welcomed a two year old daughter Sandi with Carolyn Pippen of Cisco. Sudderth previously led a strong primary showing in last July’s race and is a state representative for the 73rd district.
The annual Homecoming celebration at Sidney Baptist Tabernacle on Sunday June 9 begins at 11:00. A basket lunch will be served and an all day singing follows. Everyone is invited to attend.
The county ASC offices honor two employees with Outstanding Performance Awards and Certificates of Merit from the U S Department of Agriculture. Mr Cama A Bain and Mrs Juise Slede receive recognitions with service awards, while Mr Searcy M Ferguson presents additional honors. Comanche Little League opens with Dudley Bros beating the Raiders 25 3 and the Saints defeating Gustine 11 3 in Tuesday night action.
Sunday afternoon a Volkswagen driven by Cneedbeg Zuber of Abilene overturned on the east edge of Gustine Highway 36 causing 1150 dollars in damages. Insurance covered the loss.
