Boyd H. Anthony, president of the State National Bank in Comanche and longtime civic leader, was elected to the Texas Bankers Association Administrative Council for a three year term. He will represent the Sixth District, succeeding Horace Rees of Big Lake, with other council members named from Houston Comfort Austin Mart Texarkana and Midland.
Tom Palmer, 1957 Comanche High School graduate and son of Mrs. Pallie Palmer and the late Homer W. Palmer, has been notified of a Science Scholarship from The Texas Company to attend Baylor University. The grant begins September 1957, covers full tuition of 150 dollars per quarter plus books up to 50 dollars per quarter, and requires a major in a non biological science with renewal based on high grades.
Two 22 year old Comanche men and a 14 year old married woman were jailed after a weekend forged check spree netted 325 dollars from eleven local merchants. Billy Joe McDonald faces 11 forgery charges with bond set at 2500 dollars while a sister’s home in Waco helped locate him. The group forged checks using Floyd Brawley’s signature and spent the funds, including a car purchase for 100 dollars and a trip to McGregor.
Elmer Little describes a gunfight with Hill and Helms during a pursuit by four officers. He says he fired over Hill’s head to stop him, then braced him with a .44 in the ribs when Hill refused to surrender. A .22 in Hill’s pocket jammed, preventing a fatal shot. Little emphasizes he never shot to kill.

The Comanche swimming pool at Lake Eanes Park opens Saturday June 1 for the 1957 season. Built four years ago at about 15000 the pool recently got a new paint job and a water filtering system added last year. Lifeguard Gayle McNutt son of Mr and Mrs Luke McNutt Comanche returns as lifeguard. Concession stand run by Mr and Mrs Shorf ord Robertson. City workers cleaned up the park area.
Fifty six seniors will receive diplomas at the Comanche High School commencement held at First Baptist Church instead of Indian Memorial Stadium due to rain. Principal Joe Harper announced the change. Lou Ellen Durham is valedictorian Jamie Oden salutatorian. The student participation program follows the ceremony begun at 8:00 p.m.
Mayor John Hall proclaims May 2026 as Clean-Up Week in Comanche. City trucks will collect boxed and bagged rubbish along curbs Thursday and Friday. Residents urged to remove weeds and stagnant water to curb mosquitoes, with oil placed in breeding areas.
The Round Grove homecoming and singing meet is set for Sunday May 26 with the Wallis Family quartet and other groups. Ex Servicemen will meet at 6 30 AM Sunday May 26 at Oakwood Cemetery to place U S flags on graves of veterans. Flags for rural cemeteries are available from A P Cox at Higginbotham's.
Arlington residents Mr and Mrs Joe B Lee visited their son Calvin a student at Arlington State College on Sunday.
The Comanche Chief will publish its annual Soil Conservation issue next Thursday May 30. Led by John O. Simpson, head of the local conservation unit, the paper highlights local writers, photographs, and advertisements from area conservation minded businesses.
Mr and Mrs Eldred Wilson of Fort Worth formerly Comanche announce the birth of a son Rickie Ray on May 8 in a Fort Worth hospital. The baby weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces and is the grandson of Mr and Mrs H J Wilson of Comanche and Mr and Mrs Byron King of Palacious.
