Lt Governor Barnes to speak at Comyn marker dedication

Lt Governor Ben Barnes will visit his Comyn hometown on June 8 to dedicate two historical markers. The event follows the annual Comyn homecoming, with services at 3 p.m. near the Baptist church. M L Green son of Mr and Mrs Ed Sartor of Comanche was elected superintendent of Salder Southmayd High School. He moves from elementary principal at S&S where he served long. Green held teaching posts at Wilson. he holds a B S from Sam Houston State College and an M Ed from the same. married to Ruth Dewbre with three sons. He starts July 1.

Spanish Portuguese Delegation Visits Dudley Bros Ranch

A Spanish Portuguese Agricultural Mission delegation visited the Dudley Bros Ranch in Comanche on Friday May 23. The group, led by Conrad Amavisca, toured cattle and feeding operations as part of a study sponsored by the U S Feed Grains Council. They then headed to Dallas for two days before continuing to Kansas City Washington D C and New York City en route back to Lisbon and Madrid.

Memorial Services Set For Taylor Chapel Concord

The Taylor Chapel Concord Cemetery Association will hold memorial services on Sunday June 1 for those buried at the cemetery. Grady Ravenshine president and Mrs Skie Keith secretary treasurer urge friends and relatives to attend and bring donations to support upkeep.

Museum meeting to discuss Comanche County history

A special meeting for interested citizens is called for June 5 at 1 pm in the District Court room in Comanche. The Comanche Chamber of Commerce will liaise, inviting residents to help transfer the county’s historical items to a public group for preservation. Jim Roberts invites attendance and participation.

Walter and Mrs Dixon Honored for Historical Work

A plaque was presented to Mr and Mrs Walter J Dixon at Burks Museum by Jim Roberts president of the Chamber of Commerce. They chaired the Comanche County Historical Survey Committee and have resigned to move to the Rio Grande Valley after four years of service during which 30 markers were erected and Comanche County won the Distinguished Service Award three times.

Gustine FFA Rodeo Weekend Highlights Homecoming Supper

Gustine FFA hosts a weekend event with a Thursday parade at 6 30 p m and a Saturday 5 30 p m horse parade followed by a homecoming supper at 6 p m at the high school The rodeo features barrel racing bronc and bull riding plus a wild horse race with grade school events like goat packing and ribbon roping.

John Croft reports the Proctor Cemetery Association holds its annual homecoming Sunday June 1. The program begins with Sunday School at the Methodist Church at 9 30 a.m. The meeting continues at the Proctor Baptist Church at 10 45 a.m. Lunch is served at noon. All are invited.

Young Farmers Tour Planned by Comanche County Group

The Comanche County Young Farmer Chapter and the TAP committee sponsor a joint agricultural tour on June 3. Participants will assemble south of the high school and depart at 1 30 p m for stops at fields and the Vie Isham dairy. The Isham farm will feature a new Herd King silo with automatic feeding equipment and a Sudan grass demonstration. Cars should be lined up and ready to leave promptly at 7 40.

PAR To Ho Dedication and Open House Sunday

Congressman Omar Burleson will speak at a PAR Country Club dedication and open house on Sunday at 2 30 p.m. A luncheon precedes the program with state dignitaries invited and a tour of facilities for club members.
