City Work Crews Take Over Oakwood Cemetery Maintenance

Starting Monday May 26 the city work crew will mow and clean Oakwood Cemetery. Since 1959 a contract with Berrett Shige and sons paid $6000 monthly with lot owners contributing $7.50 annually, but unpaid fees and rising costs led to a six month notice ending May 25 transferring upkeep to the city. The city aims to keep the grounds mowed and water lines connected for all lot owners while continuing street work as time allows. The city notes annual losses exceeding $5,000 funded from the general fund and thanks Berrett Stiger and sons Roy and T. W. Shige for past cooperation.
