County to Receive Bicentennial Flag Ceremony in Comanche County

Bicentennial Recognition Day on June 14 will feature presentation of the National Bicentennial Flag and state certificates to County Judge Albert Brannan and the Bicentennial Committee. Dedication at 11:00 a.m., luncheon at PAR Country Club at noon, tickets $10, logo contest winner announced at luncheon, closing ceremonies in De Leon. Proceeds support 1975–1976 projects.

District Court Realignment Favored in Legislative Proposal

Indications point to a legislative bill creating a new district from four counties in the 2nd Judicial District Coryell would become a single county district while Comanche Bosque and Hamilton join a new district. If approved Governor Briscoe will appoint a judge and prosecutor for the new district with Byron McClellan and Bobby Cummings likely to remain in their posts. Andy Campbell and Leslie Vance emerge as favored candidates for the new roles.

Judge Disposes Of Dozen Civil Cases In Court Session

In a Tuesday morning session of the 52nd District Court Judge Byron McClellan disposed of twelve civil cases. Records show four restraining orders heard four divorces granted one adoption and one plea in abatement granted.

Gustine Voters Set May 31 for School Bond Election

Gustine Independent School District voters go to the polls Saturday May 31 to decide two propositions funding a new elementary and six classrooms with a lunchroom, plus a $130000 bond issue for repairs and equipment. Comanche County May Gain More Voting Boxes

County Judge Albert Brannan reports prospects for extra voting precincts under HB 784 as the governor is expected to sign. Comanche County now has nine boxes with at least three more likely, including restored boxes at Sipe Springs Beatric and Downing by the County Commissioners Court upon voter petitions.

White and McKinney Win PAR Golf Partnership

Ronnie White and Robert McKinney, both Houston golfers, set a three day PAR Invitational Partnership course record with 190 total. They won by six strokes over Tommy Brooks and C M Caraway, with multiple Flights and consolation prizes awarded to other teams in Stephenville. Next PAR Golf Tournament slated for August 2-3 in Comanche.

Comanche County’s Federal Aid Share Examined

Tax Foundation figures show Comanche County received about 2.3 million dollars in the last fiscal year, part of Texas total aid of roughly 2.119 billion. The analysis notes that 23 states paid more in aid than received while 27 benefited, with wide variation in matching funds and local costs.

Mrs Arthur Attends Heart Assn Meeting in Temple

Mrs Ewell Arthur, president of Comanche County Division of the American Heart Association, returned from a Temple gathering. Joseph Ogle spoke on organizing for the future. sessions covered heart industry, hypertension screening, CPR training, schools and colleges, and community awards were presented including an honor for Mrs Arthur.
