Bible school at the Coman Church begins Monday June 1 and runs through Friday from 8 to 4 each day. All children are invited to attend the daily sessions and activities.
The Comanche Public Library will begin summer hours with opening on Wednesday and Saturday mornings at 9 to 1.9. Local officers call attention to the schedule as of May 30. The library invites non members to enjoy summer reading and new KS titles including best sellers in fiction and non fiction.
A patriotic tribute recalls fallen servicemen and women, honoring their sacrifice and urging renewed dedication to peace. The piece emphasizes national pride, remembrance, and commitment to preventing further loss.
Plans for the Comanche AJRA Rodeo converge for June 11 12 18 with over 700 entry blanks mailed to AJRA members and junior contestants Oklahoma New Mexico and Texas. The event expects 150 plus contestants and many horses with 20 new stalls and space for 50 more animals. Stock will be provided by X Bar S Ranch Austin a nationally known RCA stock supplier. Clowns Shaw and John Bland will perform with Bland a 12 year old roper. Sponsors include Higerbothams Moormans Oak Lawn Funeral Home Arthur Chew. Continued on back page.
James A. Richmond 22 of Blanket will be commissioned as a second lieutenant and receive a bachelor of science degree at graduation ceremonies at the Air Force Academy. He will be assigned to pilot training at Laredo AFB Texas after earning dean's merit list recognition and graduating in the academy's sixth class.
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Graham on the corner of E Oak and S Maple was badly damaged by a Tuesday afternoon fire. The blaze stayed mainly in a bedroom, with heat smoke and water damage to other parts of the house and furnishings. No damage estimate was given by Fire Marshal Carpenter or Fire Chief Tupin.
The Gustine Lions Club elected Ben Cleveland as president with D F Caraway as 1st vice president and Plez Todd 2nd VP. New directors include Louis Harelik and Chester McKinze. Festivities open with a 5 30 parade on May 28 followed by rodeo nights May 28 29 30 with AOe admission for adults and 25 cents for students. The Homecoming Parade is set for May 30 with a fried chicken supper for 1.00. A daily drawing for a 25 bond is planned. Schools from many nearby towns are invited to participate in rodeo events.
Entries are still being received in the Miss Comanche contest sponsored by the E S A Sorority. Judging will be Saturday night June 6 at 8 o clock in the Comanche High School Auditorium. Miss Comanche and Miss Comanche Junior will be crowned with jeweled tiaras and the tiaras are on display at Swindle's Jewelry Store window.
Official Little League play begins Monday night June 1 with Oaklawn vs Blanket and Sidney vs Gus tine in the opener. Comanche Jaycees prep the grounds as Wizzards meet Raiders and Toppers face Saints Tuesday night. Thursday features Sidney vs Oaklawn and Wizzards vs Gustine. Pee Wee action starts Monday with Oaklawn vs Sidney Wiz wards vs Gustine and Toppers vs Raiders all at 7 00 at the new Little League field on the Gold.
Pee Wee games start at 5 45 on two fields at the high school and grade school. Coach Ray Smith oversees this year’s league and predicts a top Comanche season with teams already practicing. Summer recreation begins Monday June 1 with a 9 00 start at the CHS gym for school age boys.
The County 4-H Dress Revue will be held at 8 p.m. Friday June 5 in the Comanche High School. Barbara Barrett, County Home Demonstration Agent, announced that 4-H girls from across the county have worked with adult leaders to learn clothing construction and will display their garments and 4-H record books at the event. Garments and record books are due in the Extension Office by noon Monday June 1.
Missouri visitors Mr and Mrs Ed Green of 400 E Walcott will close the Greet Laundry from May 28 to June 3 while they visit their son Buster Green and family in Springfield Missouri.
