Comanche Countians join Texans on Saturday June 6 to vote in the second party primary for November general election nominees. Polls open 8 AM and close 7 PM across 28 precincts. The Chief will post election returns tonight from each box.
Comanche County voters face a sparse ballot this Saturday with one county race drawing attention. Former sheriff Gaston Boykin and current deputy Leon Sledge compete for sheriff while Commissioner Precinct No 3 sees Claude McPherson and Homer Miller vie for the post. Voters in six boxes also select a Justice of the Peace Precinct No 1 candidate along with the U S Congressman At Large race.

Mrs Clarance A Rea, 801 East Crand, is elected president of the Comanche County Cancer Crimi? unit for the coming year at the May 26 meeting. Vice president Mary Wilhelm and other officers include C H Locke secretary Azalea Ellis treasurer and W H Slider reporter. Retiring president Eza Brinson spoke on the Cancer Crusade. Next meeting scheduled for September. High yielding grasslands may produce 12 to 15 thousand pounds of milk or 600 to 700 pounds of oat or lamb per acre per year.
Worlds Champion junior cow boys and cowgirls head to Comanche for the AJRA Rodeo sponsored by Comanche Roping Club June 11 12 13. About 150 contestants expected with $3500 to $4000 in entry fees and 25 sterling silver buckles awarded across 25 contests.
Forty six first grade and older Comanche youths enroll this week under Coach Ray Smith in the Summer Recreation Program. The effort adds ten participants from last year and includes football baseball and track instruction with weight lifting. Swimming lessons are held Fridays at Lake Eanes Pool.
Comanche Public Schools Superintendent S. H. Fletcher announced two new hires and four resignations. Mrs. C E Irby moves from De Leon to teach in Junior Highs with plans to relocate to Comanche. Rodger Maddox of Cherokee and Howard Payne College graduate will teach math next year. Resignations include Don Cook Hal Rowe Mr and Mrs Wendel Battle and Mrs Vera King retiring.

The Comanche season opens with Pee Wee and Majors taking part. Pee Wee results include Sidney over Oak Lawn and Gustine over the Wizzards. Little League saw Gustine shut out Sidney 14 0 and Oak Lawn defeat Blanket 17 1. Upcoming schedule lists eight games with doubleheaders and night contests through Tuesday.
The First Methodist Church launches Vacation Bible School on June 1 with 62 enrollees and 20 workers guiding daily 2 to 4:30 pm sessions through June 5 under Mrs. Jim Ellis theme The Life of Christ. Activities aid the First Presbyterian Church Sunday School and end with a June 13 gift presentation service.
