Sergeant Lionel R. Carrigan of Comyn, age 24, in the 96th Bomb Group at an English bomber base, received a general’s commendation for outstanding explosive loading from 1943 to 1945. His unit helped bomb Focke Wulf plants at Posen, and the group aided the England to Africa shuttle missions. Carrigan trained in Denver after enlisting in December 1941 and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Carrigan.

Mammoth Bond Rally Nets $90,100 for Comanche County

Lt. Hodges Silver Star for gallantry in Germany
Major General Horace L. Mc Bride announces that 1st Lt. Jake D. Hodges of Comanche earned the Silver Star for gallantry on 29 March 1945 near Rambach Germany. Hodges led a friendly rifle company in an attack, killing ten and capturing sixty five enemy soldiers without a casualty. Hundreds attend the Frozen Food Lockers opening in Coleman. the event featured a large crowd, city leaders, and the McHorse family.

Felton Beggs Dies from Auto Injuries After Year Recovery
Felton B Beggs 16 son of Mr and Mrs T B Beggs of the Union community died Saturday May 26 at a German hospital from injuries suffered when he and Billy D Humphries were run over by a car on June 17 1944 on the Comanche Gustine highway near Gustine. Humphries died June 23. Felton had recovered and seemed well until a few days before his death. Funeral services were held Sunday May 27 at Union Cemetery with Rev S J Isham officiating.
