Tench Davidson addressed a large audience in a district court room on Wednesday. He argued for party unity, criticized opponents, outlined tax and prison reform plans, and urged voters to choose representatives who will back his program for lower taxes and state improvements.
Robert Edwards of Sipe Springs a student at John Tarleton Agricultural College earned a prize for leading the best drilled squad in the cadet corps. The annual drill at the field is the chief military event of the year. Art lessons listed with times and fees follow.
The American Legion Band of Comanche entered a two event band contest and won second place among eight bands, finishing behind the San Antonio band. The article lists the band’s directors and musicians by instrument in the new uniforms.
Washington May 20 The average World War veteran may determine the amount of his bonus by counting service days. Each day of home service up to 60 days earns 1 dollar. overseas days beyond 60 earn 1.25 dollars. If credit is under 50 dollars paid in cash. otherwise an insurance policy is issued. The policy value equals credit plus 25 percent, times about 2.5.
Nineteen graduates from the academy at Howard Payne College received diplomas. The commencement address was delivered by the Hon. E. P. Woodruff a former Comanche resident and Howard Payne College graduate.

Club boys from Comanche county swept awards at a district stock poultry and grain judging contest in Dublin. County Agent Barton led eight Comanche youths among about forty participants from five counties. Autrey Caraway won top livestock and overall scores. I J Whitfield and Eldridge Button tied for first in corn and poultry, with the Comanche team claiming multiple prizes.
The Comanche high and city faculty held their last term meeting at the high school. After a business session they shared ice cream and cake during a social hour. Miss Glennie Hoff presented Supt Layne with a leather traveling bag as a token of gratitude and respect. he expressed deep emotion in reply.
Bob Myers is rebuilding on the site of his burned former home and Ira B. Clemons plans a new house near Dr TI T Clemons in the north west city. Fort Worth’s K C Clurman brings two German police dogs to Comanche for a free exhibition Saturday May 24 on the vacant lot behind Hamilton’s drug store.
All day working at the Proctor cemetery on May 30 1924. Everyone is asked to bring well filled baskets and teals to work with. Candidates welcome if they will work.
Winston Scurry of Moundsville dominates state meet with a 101-5 second 100 yard dash to set a state record and win the silver loving cup for high score. He also places second in the 220 yard dash. son of Mr and Mrs R W Scurry, likely to return home for summer vacation.
A. P. Swallow of the extension service led a pecan budding demonstration on Cal Fritts farm near Comanche, with about 20 participants. He and J. H. Burkett say Comanche County has strong pecan potential, citing suitable soil, young timber ready for budding, and the risk of missed chances if not started now. County Agent Barton organized the event with growers from Comanche, Suez, Priddy and Proctor in attendance.
In Washington on May 19 the senate overrode President Coolidge's veto of the soldier bonus bill. The measure becomes law as the house had already acted. Vote 59 to 26 to overturn, with 30 Republicans and 27 Democrats plus two former labor senators voting against the president. Texas senators Sheppard and Mayfield supported the bill.
Crowds praised Comanche’s sponsor Miss Myrt Bryson and maid Eva Lee Bryson during coronation week events in Brownwood. Their orchid and beaded costumes drew attention as a decorated parade car led the procession driven by Eustace McCulloch.
Art lessons run 8:30 to 11:30 a m on Monday and Thursday with a monthly fee of four dollars. Mary Doyle can be reached by telephone at 35 for inquiries and enrollment.
Week at Majestic Theater features multiple shows. Monday and Tuesday present The Ninety and Nine and Five Orphans. Wednesday and Thursday bring Crinoline and Romance and Pay Rent. Friday and Saturday showcase Girl of the Golden West and The Misfit with Warren Kerrigan.
Large crowds attend the Comanche high school commencement as 72 students receive diplomas. The ceremony included a sermon by Dr. Boyd, a class play, choral numbers, and an address by Dr. Edgar Godbold. Principal J. B. Layne received a watch fob from the seniors.
