Comanche High School will award diplomas to seventy one seniors on Friday May 22. Dean E J Howell of John Tarleton Agricultural College will be principal speaker. Baccalaureate sermon Sunday May 18 at the High School Auditorium. Nelda Harris is valedictorian and Jan Franks salutatorian. Sixty six class photos appear in this edition.

The Heart of Texas Girl Scout Area selects Mineral Wells as the camp location with five weekly sessions from June 18 to July 5. Fee is fifteen dollars per week and capacity is 48 girls per week.

Travis Fritts born January 2 1929 to Mr and Mrs Pete Fritts died April 5 from injuries in a vehicle crash on April 4 He joined Van Dyke High School as a freshman and quickly became a star athlete in basketball football and track He sang in the school choir and was elected Most Popular Boy for 1946 47 This Senior Edition of The Chief dedicates memories to him.

How To Poison Beetles On Watermelons

Cucumber beetles and potato beetles threaten young watermelons. The cucumber beetle is greenish yellow with 12 spots and may be controlled by dusting with 1% rotenone or cryolite. Potato beetles are usually destroyed by dusting with lead arsenate cryolite and rotenone. DDT should not be used on melons or squash. Plant lice are controlled by rotenone dust or nicotine sulfate spray. The squash bug is controlled by sabadillo dust.

Born Martha Melissa Chancellor, she married N D Davis who survives. She lived in Brownwood, Newburg, and Comanche where he ran a feed mill. She joined the Baptist Church early in life.

Polio Uptrend Highlighted By National Campaign

National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis will distribute a parent pamphlet on infantile paralysis to every school child in Comanche County as part of a nationwide effort. Chapter Chairman Karl Shock notes the guide aims to curb fear, promote timely action, and guide caregivers during the polio season from June through August. He cites past national polio tallies and explains outcomes with recovery rates and fatalities, while praising local treatment at Fort Worth's City-County Hospital.
