Burglars Hit Comanche Drug Store In Sunday Night Theft

The Service Drug Store in Comanche was burglarized Sunday night with $10 taken from the cash register and merchandise lost. Thieves drilled the ceiling and attempted to blow the safe with nitroglycerin, but failed to enter. fingerprints were not found and police investigated Monday morning.

At the March meeting the Comyn School Board re-elected the full faculty with years of service listed for each teacher. The district touts new facilities including a home economics cottage, updated auditorium stage, and added visual instruction. Farmers Produce Company Poultry Dressing Plant shines in Comanche

The Farmers Produce Company of Comanche runs a large poultry dressing operation employing about 75, with 60 plus pickers. They ship 1 3 cars weekly to Eastern markets, peak in fall for 25 50 turkey cars at Christmas and Thanksgiving. The plant also buys 700 800 cases of eggs weekly and cream cans, with two stations led by Alford McKinzie and George C McKinzie, key figures in the business for 14 years.

Milk quality urged at cheese plant sponsored meetings

About 156 dairy patrons heard experts from Armour & Co and local educators urge higher quality milk and better feeding. Talks covered soil conservation, trench silos, and sanitary handling with a moving cheese production film, plus local entertainment and refreshments. Similar meetings followed in Hasse and Desdemona.

Geraldine Slider Named Cotton Queen Candidate at Tech

Comanche Harvests Bumper Lemon Crop

A bumper lemon crop was harvested in Comanche County with a nearly record weight and size. Mrs. J. F. Morris owns five trees, the oldest 40 years, producing just over a half bushel from one tree grown in a tub. The orchard date traces back to 1896 on a Sidney-area farm.

Community Meeting at Sidney Wednesday

A community meeting will be held at Sidney next Wednesday night sponsored by The Farmers Cheese Plant of Comanche. A lecture will be given on the care of milk, supplemented by pictures. Special music will be furnished for the occasion. Refreshments of iced tea lemonade cheese and saltine crackers will be served.

May Old Age Pensions Delayed Awaiting Federal Grant

About 126 000 needy seniors will receive May payments by mail once the federal matching funds arrive. W A Little, acting director of the Old Age Assistance Commission, said the Social Security Board awaits a deficiency appropriation from Congress and that Texas and other states are in the same position. Payments will go out immediately after funds are received, possibly in a day or a week.

Earl Cogburn publicity agent for the Glen Rose Chamber of Commerce visited Camanche this week distributing literature promoting the city as a pleasure and health resort. He had just returned from attending the West Texas Chamber of Commerce convention.

Red Taylor Sentenced to Two Years in Penitentiary

In district court R H Red Taylor of Colemar received a two year term after pleading guilty to theft of tires from Lee Bryant a Farmers Produce employee. Also Bill Richardson Troy Bryant and Wayne Stephens pleaded guilty to peanut theft receiving two year terms with suspended sentences. A divorce was granted to Clifton D Lewallen from Nannie E Lewallen in a separate civil case.

West Texas convention draws 10 000 in Brownwood

Brownwood hosted the West convention attracting about 10 000 attendees with hundreds of Comanche visitors. Highlights included the 1937 West Follies featuring Miss Mary E Jones, the Home Town Speaking Contest led by Ted Durham, and the Comanche Drum Corps in the parade. Coleman won band honors and Breckenridge won speaking. Wichita Falls to host the 1938 meeting.
