It notes SLIPs and lingerie at HAT-PALMER, fertilizer offerings made in COMANCHE, and bargains on dresses, jewelry, and home goods. The piece also mentions pay plans and auto items priced for weekend shoppers.
Conservationists from across Texas gathered in Fort Worth for the 12th annual Edward Dinner. The Comanche Chief won for best weekly newspaper conservation special edition, with the plaque presented by Fort Worth Press. 650 attendees featured remarks from James Willkerson and praise for John Simpson and local soil conservation efforts.
The quartet singing convention will be held Friday night at the Springs Community House with Charlie Marshall in charge. Visitors are invited and asked to avoid Sweetwater FM road due to a washed out bridge. to travel via Highway 3 and the Beattie FIM road, then follow a sign labeled Soda Springs.
Mrs Bertha Clark formerly of Comanche married Albert Smith of Brownwood on April 23. The ceremony was followed by a party hosted by Mrs Smith, Worthy Matron of the Comanche Order of Eastern Star, where her husband was introduced to the lodge women.
Comanche County towns dominated the District 8 Rural Neighborhood Progress and Pasture Improvement contests with Newburg winning Rural Neighborhood Progress and Nimrod Eastland County taking Pasture Improvement top honors. Other placers include Soda Springs Nimrod Stag Creek Amity and Armstrong, with 20 counties in the district. County Agent Ray Hastings praises the communities for prize money and active improvement efforts and invites entries.

Entries include Methodist, Baptist, Assembly of God, Church of Christ, Presbyterian, Lutheran, and Pentecostal groups across places such as De Leon Gustine Sidney and Sweetwater, with scattered numeric tallies and partial names.
Reverend Henry Carroll Bowman 77, longtime Methodist pastor, died at his Comanche home on May 6 after a heart attack. He retired in 1948 from Abbott church duties. Funeral planned at Indian Creek Methodist Church with burial in Indian Creek Cemetery.
Pupils of Hargrave Music Studio will perform in a May 16 7 30 p m recital at the First Methodist Church. The program includes two piano ensembles and solos with many named students and guest organist Marguerite Ross and High School Sextette directed by Mrs Joe Harper. Raymond Morris a 33 year old native of Comanche died suddenly in Fort Worth Sunday night He was dead on arrival at a Fort Worth hospital after apparently suffering a heart attack while driving his car The car went out of control and collided near Seminary Drive and North South Freeway where he had been working Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Creath Davis and Rev J L Woolsey in charge and burial was in Oakwood Cemetery Pallbearers were Adolph Profitt Garland Hicks Craig Barrett Carroll Loudermilk James Wilson and Jay Wall.
The Comanche high school bands the Beginners the Junior Band and the High School Concert Band will present its annual Spring Concert on Friday evening May 10 at 8 oclock in the high school auditorium. Tickets at 25 and 50 cents are on sale by band members or at the school Friday night. Proceeds go to the CHS Band jacket uniform. THurston R Atwood band director notes a varied program and praises the 1956 57 Senior Band for honors. Becky Baxter made all state and all regional, with Betty Durham Bobby Sullivan Lou Ellen Durham and Ann Allen listed among performers. The junior high and beginners bands are described as the best group yet. Band officers Doyle Smith president Thomas Connally vice president Jerry Sears secretary reporter and all members invite attendance.
Comanche High School elected its yell leaders for 1957 58. The five chosen are Jane Matthews, Jean Burks, Jean Mims, Jeannie Cagle and Jimmy Walker. Mr and Mrs L C Durham were visitors from Fort Worth Friday.
