Sidney Flood Destroys School Damages $40000
The worst flood in Sidney's 80 year history struck last Friday afternoon when about 10 inches of rain in two hours turned Jimmy's Creek into a 1000 yard wide surge. The five room Teacherage and elementary buildings were gutted. estimated damage reached $40,000 with records lost and furnishings destroyed. Community drives began to aid Superintendent Ray Pruitt and his family, while Comanche teachers pledged funds and donations.

Sgt Virgil C Evans son of Mr and Mrs Claus Evans recently graduated from the I Corps Non Commissioned Officers School in Korea. He placed second in a class of 98 and was commended by Lt Col John Sumstad for his achievement and encouragement to continue study. Evans has served four years and two months, much of it with paratroopers.

Aunt Emma Lane Honored On 99th Birthday in Comanche
Mrs. T. R. Lane known as Aunt Emma celebrated her 99th birthday Sunday April 28 at the home of her son Jim Lane 1106 S. Austin Comanche. She is bedfast and blind but recalls friends by voice. Attendees included family from Comanche Duncan Okla Gustine and others. she has five living children three step-children 33 grandchildren one great grandchild and eleven great great grandchildren and hopes to reach 100.

Head On Bute Wreck Injures Hills Woman and Family
Mrs Albert Cooke 62 of Bay town died instantly and five others were injured in a head on collision 12 miles northwest of Comanche on Highway 36. Albert Cooke and Rev and Mrs Renshaw with two children were hospitalized with multiple injuries. The Renshaws were en route from Lubbock to Palestine and the Cookes to Albuquerque New Mexico. Investigating officers were state patrolmen and local sheriffs. Funeral services for Mrs Cooke were held at the First Baptist Church Baytown.

Comanche area lakes surged after 5 to 6 inch rainfall. Lake Comanche overflowed the flood outlet for the first time since 1950 while Lake Eanes, on Mercer's Creek, overflowed for the first time since 1949. Lake Comanche rose to flow around the spillway by noon Thursday. Lake Eanes lies west of town on Mercer's Creek.
