Mrs. Sarah C. Dowdy Dies at 85 After 64 Years in Comanche County

Mrs. Sarah Caroline Osborne Dowdy, 85, longtime Comanche County resident, died May 8 at her daughter Mrs. FE. E. Thomas’s home. Funeral held at First Baptist Church with Rev. John G. Lambrides. interment Oakwood Cemetery. Survived by husband Joseph Dowdy (deceased), two of six children Otis C. Dowdy of Dallas and Mrs. Thomas, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral rites for Mrs. J. H. Williford here today

Funeral services for Mrs. J. H. Williford of a prominent family will be held at 2:30 PM this Friday at Comanche Funeral Home. Interment follows at Oakwood Cemetery. She died early Thursday at her daughter Mrs. Jesse Odell’s home after an extended illness.

Fort Worth Woman Suffered Back Injury in Houston Fall

Mrs. J. P. Hoff of Fort Worth formerly of Comanche suffered a severe back injury in a fall while visiting her son John Hoff in Houston. She has returned home and remains confined to her room. her son Bea Hoff of Comanche visited during illness.

Beattie Classes Tour Carlsbad Caverns and Balmorhea Swim

Beattie classes from Texas toured Carlsbad Caverns and Balmorhea State Park spending their first night in Carlsbad. Saturday 10 am a group of over 500 students began a special statewide trip visiting McDonald Observatory on Sunday and crossing into Old Mexico via Ojinaga before returning home. Peace Named To Lake Eanes Post

Roy J. Peace, longtime supervisor for the Comanche County Farm Security Administration, is appointed by the City Council to replace the late Hilbert Stewart as caretaker and water pumper at Lake Eanes. Citizens approve the selection and praise his past work and character.

Mrs. Jessie Horner Tuggle enters the race for District Clerk citing a long secretarial background in Comanche County and Fort Worth. She notes illness in her family delayed her decision but now seeks support on her merits and experience, asking voters to investigate her qualifications with local lawyers and officials.

Brightman Home from Hospital

O Brightman, recently seriously ill at his home, was taken to a Brownwood hospital for treatment last Friday. He was brought back home on Wednesday but remains in a serious condition.

Former Comanche Grammar School caretaker L. M. Batton dies

L. M. Batton aged 75 longtime Comanche resident and former grammar school caretaker died at home Sunday May 5 after a lengthy illness. He served 13 years at Comanche Grammar School and was succeeded by his son Emmett. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Comanche Funeral Home with Rev. John G. Lambrides officiating. Interment in White Point Cemetery. He was born December 28 1870 in Atlanta Georgia and married Minnie Perry December 20 1909. He is survived by wife Minnie a son Emmett Batton of Comanche a daughter Mrs Carl Allen of Dallas and two grandchildren Jerry and Judy Allen. The Battons had lived in Comanche for 30 years.

Co manche Study Club Installs Officers for Two Years

At a recent meeting the Co manche Study Club installed officers for the next two years: President Mrs Ira Clemons first vice president Mrs Gail Dudley second vice president Mrs John Pogue secretary Mrs Virgil Chaffin treasurer Mrs Charles Marshall parliamentarian Mrs C C Klingman. The year closed with a picnic for members and guests at Lake Eanes on Thursday night May 9.

Opening Softball Games In Comanche Monday Night

Opening games of the newly organized C Softball League are at 7 30 PM Monday at a Comanche football field. Admission is free. Frank Vineyard faces John Carpenter nine, Allen Beck Oscar Hill meet in the nightcap. Double headers run Mondays and Fridays with 7 inning games. Baccalaureate Service Slated at CHS With 56 Graduates

Comanche High School will hold baccalaureate services in the auditorium Sunday night with a sermon by J. W. Whitefield of the First Methodist Church. Graduation Friday night May 17 will award diplomas to 56 seniors and feature an address by Dr. Homer P. Rainey, former UT president.

Honor Thy Mother and Community Services At Local Church

The First Baptist Church announces a Mother's Day service at 11 AM with honors for the oldest and youngest mothers. The pastor will preach on Honor Thy Mother. A high school baccalaureate will be held Sunday night with participation in a community service led by Rev Whitefield. The Lambrides plan to attend the Southern Baptist Convention in Miami next week. Attendance at Sunday School last week was 376 with 171 adults. showers reduced younger children present. Daily Vacation Bible School runs May 20 to 31 featuring handwork biblical instruction and character building, ending with a commencement May 31.
