Local baseball league forms six teams for May season

Six teams directed by managers John Dyer John Carpenter Jack Wheat Allen Beck Frank Vine and Oscar Hill begin preparations for a May 13 opener. Practice sessions on the high school campus will precede games with doubleheaders twice weekly and a 19 man roster per squad plus an all star team selected to face out of town players.

Death claims L McCamey native of county

C L McCamey aged 64 died April 30 after three years of ill health. Funeral held at Board Church with Rev S J Isham and Rev R L Graham officiating. Interment in Board Church Cemetery. Born April 22, 1862, he grew up in the Board Church community and is survived by several children and wife Ann who resides with son Alton McCamey in Proctor.

Cemetery Work Planned at Siloam This Thursday

A cemetery work day is set for Thursday afternoon May 16 at Siloam. A trailer will be on site to haul away the grass trimmed from the grounds.

National Home Demonstration Week Observances Planned

National Home Demonstration Week will be observed May 5 through May 12 in rural areas across the United States and territories. The theme Today’s Home Builds Tomorrow’s World highlights home and family progress. A May 11 meeting in Comanche will feature a all day program and a covered dish luncheon. Demonstration clubs and 4-H Girls will donate to European Relief and Philippine Relief with goods and clothing from the community.

Birth of Daughter Lou Ann McCullough in Comanche

Mr and Mrs Elton McCullough of Comanche announce the birth of a daughter named Lou Ann at the German hospital on Friday April 26. The baby weighed seven pounds and a half. Mother and baby are doing nicely and have returned home.

Anny Recruiters Open Daily at Comanche Station

First Sergeant Joseph Graves, veteran of over twenty years Army service with World War II overseas time, is assigned to the Comanche sub-recruiting station with offices at the local post office. Sergeant Haley of the Army Air Forces assists with enlistments and Air Corps information. Office hours are 8:30 to 3:30 daily. Graves has visited Comanche biweekly for three months and seeks to reach as many eligible men ages 17 to 34, and their parents.

Swimming Pool At Lake Eanes Reopens After War Closure

Lake Eanes Park pool, long famed as a top free swim spot, reopened this week after wartime closure. Mayor W. C. House said water was added last week and the pool required about a week to fill and ready. A park attendant will oversee swimming at the municipal pool located four and a half miles south of Comanche.

A survey by R K Dunbar & Company will study a Lake Brownwood to Comanche water line option. The study, funded with no city obligation, will compare costs and feasibility with a local reservoir and treatment plant. Sam B. Todd and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday with a large gathering of relatives and friends from Comanche and surrounding counties. Invitations were issued, gifts were presented, and society noted the couple’s long civic involvement in Gustine and area. Mrs. Todd, born Laura Skinner, was the daughter of the late Rev. W. L. Skinner, a Baptist minister. The Todd family has been prominent in local business and community life since their marriage in 1896 during Easter observances.
