Comanche blossoms with seven new business houses along Highway No. 10. Higginbotham Bros will erect brick and tile Spanish type buildings near the square with 20 to 25 workers. Dudley Tire Co plans a separate southeast corner unit.
The Comanche Chief notes the Boll Weevil Baseball League opener May 10 featuring an Owls versus Montezumas game. Parade before the event led by new ruler J. R. Eanes with lineups listing Owls players and Montezumas players.
The local Farmers Cheese Plant received 21 000 pounds of milk Thursday, part of a new weekly high after record totals of 30 000 pounds Monday and Tuesday. About 310 pounds of cheese were made Thursday and over 7 000 pounds on Monday and Wednesday. A new vat was installed, with another to come next week, doubling original capacity.
Delegations from counties along U S Highway 67 will appear before the Texas Highway Commission May 14 in Austin to press for completion of unpaved gaps. A preliminary 11 a m meeting at Stephen F. Austin Hotel is planned, following a Cle burne organization meeting. Comanche delegates include County Judge R S McCharen and commissioners F L Little Sam Lewis H L Stewart J Starr and Gail Dudley.
Postmaster J. R. Eanes reports Comanche postal receipts for the first quarter of 1935 rose 9 percent from the previous year. Receipts for April 1935 show a 15 percent increase over April 1934, indicating across the board growth in postal revenue.
Three Co manche County farmers were chosen by the corn-hogs wheat cotton and peanut committees to travel to Washington for a 2 day session with about 2000 farm representatives. P A Pettit will represent the cotton contract signers, Walter J Fritts the corn-hog signers, and Howard F Short the peanut signers. The Texas Farmers Special departs Fort Worth May 12 and returns May 17, funded by 60 local donors.
A telegram to The Chief confirms the Sandy Land Experiment Station will be established this section. The bill states the station will be placed in Brown Coie Cal lahan Brath of East County, chosen by A. and M. College, with Comanche County civic groups lobbying for the site.
Texas legislature sent a constitutional amendment to voters authorizing old age pensions of 15 dollars monthly for residents over 65. House concurred with Senate amendments. decision planned for the 1926 general election. Original House proposal was 30 dollars for those over 60, but 15 dollars at 65 prevailed 120 to 5.
Dublin Progress reports highway improvement on State Highway No. 10 from Dublin to the Comanche County line. A 3.9 mile section will receive hard surfacing with 18 foot topping and 1 inch thickness, using about 2000 yards of rock. The job is led by foreman George F. Maury with 15 to 20 workers and will be completed in about thirty days under an $8,985 appropriation.
The Senate backed the Patman bill to pay a $2.2 billion bonus in new currency despite White House opposition. Final vote 55 to 33 after rejecting the Harrison compromise 54 to 30 and the Vinson-American Region cash payment plan 52 to 35. A veto was anticipated but not yet tested.
The Goldthwaite school board ordered two 45 passenger school buses last week per the Goldthwaite Eagle. The report hints at possible purchases of one or two more buses, noting the deals may extend this procurement.

An Associated Press dispatch from Washington outlines eight channels under the work relief law for government funds to provide jobs for the unemployed. Officials estimate 880 million dollars needed to aid direct relief until the work program starts and to support those unable to work. Congress limits remaining 4 billion dollars to 800 million for highways and grade crossing elimination and 500 million for water conservation and land reclamation.
About $10,000 will be received within a few days for Comanche County schools from a $2.00 per scholastic apportionment by the State, according to County Superintendent B. Ray McCorkle. The total reaches $13.00 of the $15 promised since school openings, with a prior $2.50 deficit paid last fall, marking the heaviest state payment in a school year. Comanche City Schools will receive about $1,300 of the allotment.

Last week theft of peanuts cited. seven indictments for sale of intoxicating liquor. Petit jury to report May 27. one civil case resolved in a divorce. Dublin business men formed a Chamber of Commerce for a three month period to maximize benefits from the President's work relief bill. John Culpepper named secretary. W. B. Whitehead elected president and C. G. Foust Jr. secretary. Directors include Whitehead, Franks, Reil, Sullenberger, Kight, Foust, Harris. Culpepper, recently Edna Hill school superintendent, was dispatched to Dublin to start work.
Deput y Sheriff W A Pate was beaten and cut by Louie and Joe Haile near the Travelers Hotel in De Leon on Wednesday night He suffers loss of blood and multiple wounds and is recovering at home Charges of assault with intent to murder were filed against the brothers by County Attorney C C Hampton in Justice Wetzel's Court and they await Grand Jury action The attack followed a report of a beating of a woman and the Haile brothers allegedly struck Pate with pliers causing extensive injuries and knife wounds Continued on Last Page
Voters will choose one alderman to succeed John E Hoff who resigned to become mayor. The candidates are H L Stewart and Be Riley. Polls open at 8 a m and close at 7 p m at City Hall. Officials are D C Dingus and A E Thompson.
