Phillip McAliley of Comanche Texas died at his home on May 4 from a rifle wound. He was 22, a Comanche High School graduate, and worked for W. C. House Sinclair. Services were set for May 5 at the Church of Christ with Minister Hiden McFerrin in charge. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery. funeral arrangements by Comanche Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife Ellen, two daughters Phyllis Ann and Marty Lynn, his parents Luther J. and Annie Laura McAliley, one sister, and other relatives.
On the night of April 22 safe crackers broke into the Hammit Motor Company Building at De Leon and seized $1320 in cash. Checks lay scattered on the floors as Texas Ranger George Roach aids Sheriff Belve Bean and local officers in the search for clues.

Comanche County prepares for a large Democratic Primary with 4200 to 4400 voters, a shift to May voting, and multiple county races including sheriff, tax assessor collector, district attorney, and several commissioner contests. The Comanche Chief will host results at 207 West Grand after polls close.
Bennett and Forbes of Brownwood secured the low bid at 249600 for the Comanche 30 unit Federal Housing Project. Herbert N Goodson confirms construction will start in two weeks on a four acre tract between East Walcott and East College Avenues.
The 8th annual Blanket FFA Rodeo runs May 5 6 7 at the Blanket Football Field. Two divisions 4 H Club and FFA with High School and grade school classes. Events include bull riding calfribbon roping barrel racing calf scramble creased pig race and trailer race. Chapters expected Comanche Coleman Gustine Sidoney Mullin May Zephyr Priddy Early Goldthwaite and host Blanket Brown and Comanche 4 H clubs compete for high point team and individual prizes. Admission 59c for adults 25c for students. Mrs Gladys Wessel of Liver for California returns home after visiting her mother Effie Donaldson.
Comanche public school schedules enrollment for sixty first graders to begin first grade the coming school year on Monday May 9 at 9 am. Eligibility includes birthdays between September 2 and December 31 1959. Parents urged to contact J B Jary School principal for registration details and any questions.
The Comanche Chief announces an upcoming annual Soil Conservation issue prepared with help from John Simpson and the Soil Conservation Work Unit. The edition will feature news articles, features, pictures, and special writings by farmers ranchers and conservationists on protecting soil and maximizing agricultural land productivity.
Democratic precinct conventions will be held in Comanche County on Saturday May 7 at specific times and locations. Delegates are allocated by votes cast in the 1958 governor race with poll tax or affidavit rules in effect. Each precinct lists box number votes time and delegates. some entries include missing details.
Well over 1,000 persons attended the opening at The Comanche Chief’s new building on West Grand. Visitors toured the printing plant, enjoyed refreshments, and many prizes were awarded to locals and children. Special honors went to the longest resident of Comanche County, C. E. Straley, 77.
Vicki and Javonne Braga sisters of Cleburne will entertain the Comanche Lions Club Tuesday night. They sing on stage radio and TV and record. They currently appear on Red Foley Jubilee USA from Springfield Missouri and will next appear on May 14.
A pie supper and musical program will be held at Sidney High School on Thursday at 7 30 p m. The event is sponsored by the PTA and benefits go to the Sidney Boy Scouts. Everyone is invited to attend.
Comanche High School star fullback Dolin Gleaton signed a four year football scholarship with Texas Christian University. CHS student leader and scholar Ath let e earned three football four basketball letters and led district tennis four years. Gleaton also served as student council president and Future Teachers Association head.
Comanche County residents faced a severe hailstorm Wednesday afternoon. Golf ball sized hail fell in Stag Creek territory with pockets as large as a pocketwatch in Soda Springs and hail as large as a dollar in Proctor. Trees stripped and residential damage reported. De Leon measured 2.08 inches of rainfall with no hail.
