Roy Harmon,, assistant coach at Santa Anna, was elected head coach of the Mountaineers this week. A graduate of Austin College, he has coached at Comanche for two years and mentored football and basketball at Santa Anna. The Harmons reside in Comanche with their two children, and Harmon is praised as both coach and science teacher.
Dr. William T. Calhoun, dentist and civic leader, elected president of the Comanche Jaycees for the coming year. Albert Brannan named vice president with Ray Hastings as State Director and Bill Parker as secretary treasurer. Otis Smart and four others chosen for the Board of Directors.
The First Methodist Church in Comanche will host a week of evangelistic services from May 5, led by Rev. Robert W. Walker. Mrs. Joe Harper directs the songs, Marguerite Ross plays the organ, and worshippers are invited to attend.
W. B. Horton is visiting with friends and relatives in Andrews this week, gathering with local residents and sharing time with family across town.

Humble Oil & Refining drills a wildcat well Durham No. 1 on the Walter Durham Ranch 12 miles south of Comanche in Newburg. The rotary rig reaches 3,000 feet with plans to drill to 4,000 to 5,000 feet.
Coach and Mrs Frazier and their children from Andrews visited Easter with Mrs Frazier’s parents Mr and Mrs Jack Carnes.
Jeannine Gleaton and Suzanne Marshall freshmen at North Texas State College Denton were home for the Easter holiday with family and friends, reflecting on campus life and the break from studies.
The Comanche Chamber of Commerce met on Wednesday April 24 with 11 of 12 directors present. Ted Durham opened the session and the minutes were approved. Discussions covered member recruitment, revising the current roster, a sand analysis for glass making, and a night mail box request. Bill Parks attends an industrial development program in Mineral Wells on May 2.
Fine rains ease drought as nine communities in Comanche County prepare a Rural Neighborhood Progress and Pasture Improvement Contest tour with judges visiting Soda Springs Stag Creek Amity and Newburg on April 30 and May 1. Prize funds come from Farmer-Stockman magazine and The Texas Plant Food Society.

Comanche Jaycees to sponsor the 1957 Little League season with six teams likely. Boys 9 to 12 will sign up as registration forms become available this weekend. Last year’s teams included Dudley Bros and Topper Peanuts. commissioners are Bill Parker Jimmy Carpenter and Barney Evans. Plans to form a Pony League for 13 and 14 year olds are discussed awaiting sponsors and teams.
Parents must file transfer applications for the 1957 58 school year in May. Contact your district or county superintendent to submit and arrange the transfer.
Comanche Garden Club stage a female-free wedding pageant at the high school gym Tuesday April 30. Bride and groom are Joe Harper and Louis Marelik with more than 50 men and boys in the wedding party. Admission 25 and 50 cents, proceeds to garden club civic improvement fund amid a full cast list and local supporters. The second item notes a Rock Bluff Baptist Church all day singing on May 5 with lunch, plus a weekend visit by the Durhams to San Antonio.
A spring revival begins at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church in Comanche starting Saturday night April 27 and continues through the next week. Rev. J A Brooks of Granbury will preach with services at 7 45 nightly. Everyone is invited. The church sits on East College Avenue.
The 5th Annual Blanket FFA rodeo runs May 2 through May 4 with calf roping and bareback riding each night. Over 12 FFA chapters including Sidney Gustine and Comanche are invited. The Blanket Homecoming event is planned for 2 PM on May 4 in conjunction with the rodeo.

Comanche Comet star Lee, son of Mr and Mrs Joe B Lee, selects Florida over USC and Georgia Tech after Arlington State College, to enroll at University of Moridg. A two year eligibility remains with varsity play possible next fall under coach Bob Woodruff.
