Peanut Growers Urge Keeps Peanut Price Supports
The National Grower Group representing 90 000 peanut farmers urged Congress on April 24 to maintain price supports at about 75 percent of parity. They warned that a new plan could cause peanut shortages and rejected the target price concept as unworkable. Reynolds cited growth in yields and exports over 12 years and argued the present program costs have fallen to negligible levels. The Adamson Act of 1916 is noted as a separate historical item.
