Jury trials occupied County and 52nd District Courts this week. A mistrial was declared in Humberto Garcia’s DWI case in Judge Albert Brannan’s court. The same panel returns Monday for further jury duties, with five Guilty pleas and probated sentences heard in Judge Byron McClellan’s court.
A community choir welcomes high school students and adults from all faiths to rehearse Sundays from 3 to 5 pm at United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Stephen McKenzie directs, with a July 2 and 3 performance at First Baptist Church Sanctuary.
Two Howard Payne University students Miss Pat Kelly and Miss Jan Timmons will lead the 11:00 a.m. worship at Eastside Baptist Church this Sunday May 4 in dynamic testimonies in music and message. Rev. Walter Wooley invites all faiths to attend this inspirational service.
District Attorney Bobby Cummings prosecutes two criminal cases including false statement charges. Donald Sanders, on a 5 year probated sentence from 1972 for marijuana possession, appears in court. Judge McClellan grants seven divorces and a jury panel will report Monday May 12 for further civil and criminal trials.
The city will launch girls softball with eight teams split into two age groups 10 to 12 and 13 to 15. Games run Mondays and Saturdays at Comanche Jaycee Ball Park with two games per night on each field South for younger teams North for older teams.
The Jaycee program announces Freshman and Midget League games from May through July. Teams include Wizards Oilers Raiders Saints Gustine Bingham Sidney VEW VFW TV and others with frequent matchups, venues, and dates listed across May to July.
An estimated $1.524 million in tax relief will reach Comanche County residents over the next two months. About $1.068 million comes as refunds from excess withholding, $456,000 as 1974 tax rebates, and $50 payments go to Social Security and aid recipients. Nationwide, $37.6 billion will be distributed with most as refunds averaging $386 per return. Checks begin in about two weeks and take one to two months to finish.
