Veterans GI Bill loans discussed by Texas bankers

Wm C Chilton of Comanche National Bank submitted information on veteran loans under the GI Bill of Rights at a Texas Bankers Association meeting. Murray Kyger of First National Bank Fort Worth led the committee. bankers report broad Texas support and caution against overpricing, with VA guarantees up to 2000 or 50 percent.

Pfc Adcock from Iwo Jima News Held for Treatment

Pfc Leonard W Adcock wounded in action on Iwo Jima February 27 landed in San Francisco last week and is being transferred to New Orleans for treatment. He hopes for a furlough to visit his parents Mr and Mrs 3 E Adcock of Gustine. He was shot through the neck by a small calibre rifle. His aunt Mrs Nona Besor visited him in the San Francisco hospital. Adcock has served two years and went overseas last year.

Wilkins Named CHS Coach

J M Wilkins former Mexia High Kilgore Junior College and Texas Wesleyan standout quarterback was elected coach of Comanche High School by the board Tuesday night. He is 29 with five years teaching and coaching experience and will attend spring training next week. He has held posts at Cotulia and Judson Grove and is married with one child.

Canning Sugar Rules Cited for Comanche County

The canning sugar program will begin in Comanche County with local advisory panels in each community. Panels hold application blanks, assist filers, and forward completed forms for approval. all coupons will be mailed, not handed out in person.

Comanche County Names J C Helm Jr County Superintendent

The Comanche County Commissioners Court appoints S/Sat J C Helm Jr to the office of county superintendent effective May 1 He will not assume duties until after the war and will not receive salary until then Helm succeeds Dale Howard who resigned He will not seek discharge from the Army and remains stationed at Randolph Field having volunteered for service since October 1942.

Gustine County Appoints Acting Superintendent Willis

George R Willis, Gustine Public School superintendent, was hired by newly named county superintendent J C Helm Jr to serve as acting county superintendent from May 1 until after the war. Helm will return later and Willis will become assistant county superintendent. Willis held the Gustine post since last September for eighteen months.

Baby Contest Proves Popular at Victory Vanities Event

The Victory Vanities program fundraiser for the American Legion Memorial Community Building drew many votes. Susan Blackwood, 16 months, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. E E Blackwood, won girls' first place, with Carolyn Pettit, daughter of Captain and Mrs B E Pettit, as runnerup. Boys' first went to Arthur Lee Morris, two, son of Lt. and Mrs. Wyatt Lee Morris, while runnerup was Malcolm Edmondson, son of Mr. and Mrs I M Edmondson. Captain Pettit and Lt Morris are overseas in Germany and the Philippines respectively.

Resigns as County Superintendent Dale Howard

Dale Howard tendered his resignation from the county school office to the Commissioners Court and will leave May 1. He will become vice president of the C. C. Porter Company Inc a wholesale book concern in Dallas and begin new duties May 1. Howard has served since January 1 1939 and thanked citizens for electing him.

Missing Captain Tull McGuire in Pacific Action

Captain Tull K. McGuire 25 Comanche reported missing in action over Japan since February 10 after a mid air collision on a Tokyo bound B 29 mission. He was a first pilot, Beech test pilot and early B 29 flyer, with wife Josephine and daughter Judith Gale in Wichita.

Pfc Bobby Holmes Killed in Action in Germany

Pfc Bobby Burt Holmes son of Mr and Mrs Fred Holmes of Lubbock died of wounds on March 2 in Germany. Born and raised in Comanche he finished high school class of 1942 then moved with his parents to Lubbock. He turned 18 in June 1943 and had been overseas less than a year. He is survived by grandparents Mrs A T Perry and Mrs J A Holmes of Comanche.

Comanche High School Choir to Sing Easter Services

The Comanche High School A Cappella Choir will perform at the Easter sunrise service Sunday at seven AM on KBWD Brownwood broadcast from the courthouse east lawn. Fox Hunters Meet Today at Round Mountain

Comanche County Fox Hunters Association holds its annual meeting and barbecue today March 30 at Round Mountain. About 500 attended last fall and a larger turnout is expected. A beach show Friday at 2 pm will judge fifty top dogs by Lewis Ackers of Abilene.
