Tax Assessor-Collector warns that Monday is the deadline to place the 1546 motor license on vehicles. The notice details required documents and money to avoid penalties for driving without a current license. Local readers are urged to register vehicles in their county and comply with the state motor vehicle law.
A rabbit drive is planned in the Fairview community next Tuesday April 2. Dinner will be served at the home of J R Byrd. He noted that there will be plenty of shells for 12 gauge guns and encouraged public participation in the event.
Leonard Hanson a Phoenix poultry truck driver suffered burns to hands face and feet when a fire broke out in his cabin at Comanche Courts on the Fort Worth Highway early Wednesday. Firemen doused the blaze and he was treated at a local hospital before flying back to Phoenix for further care.
Ben F Hearn Jr recently returned from overseas service and is enrolled at Texas Christian University. He will be a guest at the 11 oclock worship program on Sunday March 31 as the church welcomes his return and plans for him to enter the ministry.
The Comanche Lions Club will give away a registered Herero calf to raise funds for a building or club room. President John D. Waring Jr. announced the club now has seventy two members, one of the largest drives since the early twenties.
The Comanche Chamber of Commerce calls on members to vote by Friday March 29 for six new directors. Ballots were mailed last weekend. Mr. Waring says a full member vote is needed as important measures will come before the directors in 1946 for Comanche and County progress. Ballots should be mailed or delivered to Miss Charlene Stewart at the chamber office.
Mrs L C Phillips longtime practical nurse in Comanche is confined to bed after being run over and dragged by a car on the Fort Worth Highway near the Comanche square. Sheriff W P St Clair investigated and a possible charge of driving while intoxicated may be filed.
District 10-A Interscholastic League Meet scheduled for Friday April 5 at Gorman with track events on Saturday April 6. Schools include De Leon Comanche Eastland Hamilton and others. Virgil abbessin superintendent notes hundreds of contestants and visitors are expected.
The Women's Society of Christian Service at First Methodist Church Comanche will host a book review by Mrs Alma Robertson Williams at the Comanche Methodist Church Friday night April 5. Williams, formerly of Comanche, is known for book reviews and will likely discuss Douglas sales The Re Cne. Tickets are 50 cents and available through church ladies.
An announcement from Indian Creek states a rabbit drive will be held Tuesday April 2 at Indian Creek. The notice specifies a community event inviting residents to participate in the drive.
Beattie hosts a pie supper tonight by the Home Demonstration Club and 4 H Clubbers as announced by the club reporter.
Mrs. J B Nabers Aunt Mary 85 a Comanche resident for 65 years died at her home. Funeral at First Methodist Church with Rev J W Whitefield officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Survived by husband J B Nabers and seven children, nineteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and many relatives.
W E McF 32 son of Mr and Mrs C Srabarter was killed when a contractor moving equipment from Camp Hood to Texarkana lost control of a truck near Corsicana Pend Oakwood Cemetery Comanche Thursday. Rev John G Lambrides led services. Survived by wife Erma Lee Stevens and 18 month old Harold Gene, parents and four sisters Zebia Kerley Mae Davis Neila Hogan and Willie Butler.
Dale Norwood eight year old son of Mr and Mrs Gerald Norwood of Hasse died at Blackwood Clinic and Hospital in Comanche two hours after being run over by a car on a highway near his home. Roy Simpson superintendent of the Hasse School had been driving pupils home when Dale exited the vehicle and was struck by an oncoming car from Fort Worth. The driver stopped and reported the accident to the sheriff. Dale was taken to the clinic by Mrs Skie Pipes who arrived soon after. Funeral services were held Thursday at Indian Creek Church with interment in Indian Creek Cemetery.
Bud Bishop spent last weekend in San Angelo with his wife and son, enjoying time together. The brief outing highlights a private family trip away from public duties.
County and city school officials urge that every child of school age be counted in the census by April 1 to avoid losing $30 per overlooked child. Six-year-olds by next September 1 should be counted. residence on April 1 determines district enrollment.
Comanche High School presents its annual senior play this evening at 7 30 in the high school auditorium. Eloise Marshall stars as part of a cheerful set of mischief filled scenes expected to provoke laughter and exasperation among family and friends.
The Rector Cunningham Post No 232 of the American Legion bought the Davenport Hotel from Pied Hall for 5000. It will be remodeled at about 10000 to serve as a two story community building with an auditorium kitchen dining room and air conditioning. The project, aided by committee chair J W Carter Jr and members Ben Evridge Harry Cloud Tom Pate and Armstrong Cox, aims to open public functions and host a church service for ex-servicemen and families.

Dawson Masters of Comanche withdraws as candidate for District Clerk citing his long time post as supervisor at Durham Pecan and Peanut Co. He says remaining with the Durham firm is in his best interest after 15 years with the company and after February 1 announcement.
The Comanche High School Band will perform Monday afternoon during Trades Day on Comanche streets. Director M. T. Camp notes the band has about 90 members but only 50 uniforms are available at present.
The Sidney senior play is scheduled for Wednesday night with admission set at 10 cents and 2 cents. Everyone is invited to attend.
