Farm Tour Highlights Winter Cover Crops Progress

A 200-strong delegation toured ten farms and ranches in Comanche County Texas visiting sites from Charlie Biggs Farm to Barret Hereford Ranch. The trip promoted winter cover crops with talks from Texas A M College and local agricultural officials.

Metcalfe Announces Run for Re-Election to 25th District

Penrose B. Metcalfe, state senator and 16 county district leader, announced this week his candidacy for re election in the 25th District. A World War II Army Air Corps veteran and Tom Green County native, he highlighted his legislative record and said he would patrol all counties in the district and outline near term goals.

Mrs. Myrtle Carroll Dies. Noted Comanche Teacher-Composer

Mrs. Myrtle Carroll wife of W D Carroll died at home Friday April 5 after an illness begun last June. Funeral services were held Saturday at the residence with Rev W B Gray officiating. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery. She taught piano in Comanche for over twenty five years and held a large class. Survived by her husband and siblings Ira Gerganess Llano and Mrs B Cardwell Comanche.

Special Services Next Week at First Baptist Church

Rev. John G. Lambrides opens a series of sermons at First Baptist Church with 11 am and 8 pm services starting Sunday and continuing nightly the next week. The artist preacher uses pictorial preaching to illustrate Christ’s earthly ministry with daily events and stories. Palm Sunday shows The Triumphal Entry and The Tears of the Savior, followed by The Cleansing of the Temple, The Promise of His Return, The Silver or the Savior, The Seven Words from the Cross, and a Sunrise Easter service at Lake Banes with The Risen Redeemer and The Savior’s Scars commemorations.

Inspection For Leon Dam Site By Brazos District Engineers

Dyna AOC water engineers from Austin along with Freese and Nichols of Fort Worth conducted a preliminary inspection of Leon River dam sites proposed by a five county flood control committee. Brazos District directors will consider sponsoring the program next Monday, enabling surveys estimates and legal advice that would save eight sponsoring towns money.

The Comanche County Red Cross Drive exceeded its 1946 quota by about 1500, totaling 5013.35 on a 3490 goal. R. W. Brannan and Hollis Burton have led the drive for three years and new officers will be elected Tuesday after noon April 16 at the Comanche County Courthouse.

Softball League Forms as Ninety Sign Up in Comanche

Six teams form in Comanche with opening game set for Monday April 22 on the high school campus. About ninety players have signed up with a $1 membership to cover bats balls and grounds. Funeral Rites Held For Ulrich E Wiesendanger

Ulrich E. Wiesendanger a 50 year old Dallas businessman and former Comanche resident died of a heart ailment at his Dallas home. Last rites were held at Oakwood Cemetery Comanche with Rev John G Lambdrides officiating. Pallbearers included members of Machinery Sales and Supply Company of Dallas and Comanche residents. He was born in Comanche March 21 1896 and served as an engineer in World War I. Survived by a sister two brothers and other relatives.

Comanche County Reports 4700 Car Tags Sold

About 4,200 cars and trucks were registered in Comanche County by April 1, according to Tax Assessor-Collector J Lightfoot. The rise from 1945 reflects returning servicemen. Receipts total around $50,000, all staying in county for road work, with expected 60,000 potential this year as registrations rise.
