MERS OF COMANCHE COUNTY Totaling 143181.95 Paid in 1940 Farm Programs

The Agricultural Adjustment Administration reports Comanche County has received 143181.95 in 1940 payments. Breakdown includes 94960.75 Agricultural Conservation, 7102.14 Range Conservation, 7222.06 Wheat Parity, and 35959.89 Cotton Parity. Some eligible farmers have not filed. Final date to apply is March 31, 1941.

The April term jury panel for Comanche County district court to convene April 21 includes Grand Jury members Oswell Brightman and others from Comanche Gustine and De Leon, with multiple Petit Jurors named for second through fourth weeks.

John W Harris Dies at 76 in Indian Mountain Community

John W Harris aged 76 died suddenly at his home in the Indian Mountain area, heart attack judged the cause. He married Mary Ann Underwood in 1885 and leaves six daughters Mmes Jim Broom Tony Broom Parker McDaniel Mattie Burkett Dave Fincher and Ress Fincher, with two sons deceased in infancy. Funeral held at Oakland Cemetery with Bro Willie Skaggs officiating. Higginbotham Bros. handled arrangements.

Farmers Meeting Monday April 7

The president of the Farmers Marketing Association calls a meeting for Monday night April 7 upstairs over Colemans Grocery to discuss securing a better farm product market and promoting a big County Fair in summer. Attendees will hear exact figures on market and fair building and share their opinions and ideas.

Comanche pupils earned places at the county meet with West Ward School securing points. Sub Junior spelling saw Frances Ruth Halstead and Dorothy Williams tied for first. Local Farmers Move To Form County Farm Organization

Farmers from across the county met in Comanche on March 20 to discuss forming a county unit affiliated with the National Farm Organization. The group aims to promote AAA parity payments, reduce freight and insurance costs, and improve state and inter-state farm conditions. Twenty two attended. 19 joined, with goals of 300 members and upcoming meetings in Sidney Gustine De Leon Proctor.

The Comanche Grammar School dominates the County Meet with Ready Writers led by Vanceil Briscoe first place and Choral Club first place. The event marks a third consecutive win earning permanent possession of the loving cup. other results include a junior spelling second place tie and Kenneth Froh finishing third in Junior Boy's Declamation.

Revival Meeting Opens at Methodist Church Sunday

A local revival begins at the Methodist Church next Sunday led by resident workers. Regular services start Friday night April 4 with Easter Sunday finale. Choral Club from Comanche Grammar School, directed by Miss Marguerite Ross, will perform Sunday night.

Jersey Breeders Banquet Planned by Comanche County Group

Comanche County Jersey Breeders Association members will hold a banquet Saturday night at the Ridgeway Hotel. E. C. Seay says only interest in better dairy cattle and a 50 cent plate charge are required. Joe Shelton will speak. the group owns a registered Jersey bull and several others used at various farms. The organization reports a rise in Jersey cow value and notes ongoing sire progress.

Texas county urges 1941 license tags by April 2

Pettit county official warns all Texas drivers in the county to display 1941 license tags on highways by Wednesday April 2 to avoid penalties. Deputies visited large voting boxes to register vehicles, licenses available at De Leon City Hall substation and Comanche courthouse annex, with many owners yet to purchase. All county vehicle owners must buy licenses locally to comply with state law.

WPA funding in Co manche County totals 646 287 65 dollars

Over five and a half years, Co manche County spent 646 287 65 on WPA projects. WPA contributed 434 855 93 with 352 031 17 for payrolls and 82 824 76 for other costs. Local sponsors added 211 431 72 through 1940. Projects cover nursery schools, recreation, adult education, library and more, employing 10 men and 67 women on community service programs and about 259 men on construction projects.

Faculty To Present Farce At Beattie School On April 4

Beattie School hosts a Friday night performance of Father Goes Domestic a three act comedy by Austin Goetz. The Beattie Faculty and guest actors feature Roger Talcott Jeannie Talcott and a cast including Mary Lizzie Fisher Miss Shields and Anne Talcott in a humorous look at a henpecked husband and family misadventures with a meddling mother in law.

The Veterans Memorial Plaque in the new court house will honor 28 servicemen who served in time of war. Weather Delays County Meet With Resumption Tonight
