Proctor Reservoir Dedication to Feature Yarborough April 11

Formal dedication of Comanche County's Proctor Reservoir, a 15.5 million dollar project, is set for April 11 starting 1:50 PM. U.S. Senator Ralph Yarborough will be principal speaker with Omar Burleson and Ben Barnes also attending. A barbecue, water show, skiing exhibition by the Dallas Skiing Club, and performances by the Comanche High School Indian Band will follow the ceremonies. Barbecue tickets cost 1.50, available from the Chamber of Commerce or The Comanche Chief.

Texas Jaycees pick Prefield Outstanding Young Farmer

Bill Lane of the Newburg community Comanche County was named the Outstanding Young Farmer of Texas at the 8th annual Fredicksburg banquet. Lane 35 will represent Texas at the National 1964 OYF program in Madison Wisconsin April 12 14. Sam Sparks 35 of Santa Rosa was first runner up with other runners up Jim Knowlton Von Ormy Johnnie Evans Jr Mercury and F. C. Lochte Fredericksburg.

Parcel Post Rates To Increase In April

Postmaster Jim Carpenter reminds residents of Comanche and area that new domestic parcel post rates take effect April 1. The Interstate Commerce Commission authorized a 13.1 percent average increase, expected to raise about 75.4 million dollars annually, with catalog rates up about 13 percent to yield 2.4 million if 1962 volume remains. The change excludes all parcel post and international parcel post. Carpenter cites Postmaster General Gronouski noting the ICC decision helps reduce federal treasury drain by 100 million dollars. He notes a six-pound local parcel would cost 37 cents, up from 32 cents.

Comanche High Indian Band Named Texas Jaycees National Delegate

The Comanche High School Indian Band is chosen to represent Texas Jaycees at the 1064 National Convention to be held in Delian from June 31 to July 1. Band director Jack King says the Texas delegation will cover lodging and meals, with the SMU campus event slated for June 23.
