Senior Play to Be Presented April 2

The Coman High School senior class will present Girl Crazy on Friday April 2 at 8 00 p m in the CHS Auditorium Tickets are 1 00 for adults and 75c for students The play follows Danny Churchill sent to Arizona to a ranch where men are men and girls scarce He turns the dilapidated ranch into a dud ranch with lively visitors from back east The cast includes Kent Renshaw as Danny Churchill Jane Jolley as Molly Jolene Williams as Babs and Gail Conway as Lieutenant Caddigan Directors are Mickey Scott and Leonard Bonick Promoters are Jean Hallman and Judy Kemp.

Local School Board Elections Seen in Three Areas

Voter interest rises in Comanche Gustine and Sidney school elections with contested races. Gustine vying for two seats among five candidates led by incumbent T C Couch and opponents Garth Pettit Mack Stark James Boucher and William Kirkland. Sidney two seats with Kenneth Gibson seeking re election Grady Reed Norman Chandler also running. Comanche Independent School Board sees five candidates for two seats including Charles Ray Levisay J M Dutton Brooks Kerley Wayne Stewart and Elton McDonald seeking re election. Elections set for Saturday April 3.

Area Peanut Farmers Earn $100 Checks for Yields

The De Leon Peanut Company awarded $100 each to area farmers for top irrigated and dry land peanut yields. Irrigated winners include Buster McDonald of Rt. 3 Comanche and Jerry Stark of Rt. 2 Dublin. Dry land winners include Dalton Perkins of Rt. 3 Comanche and Norman Moore of Rt. 1 Sidney. Harvest figures and ASC data determined the awards. no sale restrictions applied.

Inquiries Open for Spring Turkey Hunting Licenses

Frances Lockwood reports a special spring turkey season from April 24 to May 2 prompting many requests to the Chamber of Commerce and Game Management Officer. Landowners with turkeys are urged to contact the Chamber or Billy Works to lease land to hunters and set daily rates, with inquiries coming from Orange Lorena Irving and Belton.

Sales Tax Returns By City For Quarter Ended

The one percent City Sales Tax yielded 13 639 to Comanche for the latest quarter. Other area towns reported Abi lene almost 340 000 Brownwood 81 808 Cisco 11 724 De Leon 6 647 Eastland 11 553 Gorman 2 409 Ranger 9 532 Stephenville 47 338 in local option tax receipts.

JR High Track Meet Friday at Comanche Junior High

Comanche Junior High hosts a Friday meet on March 26 with 12 towns expected. Separate 7th and 8th grade divisions run preliminaries 3:00 to 5:15 pm and finals from 6:00 pm featuring relays dashes hurdles and mile relay. Admission 35 cents.

Jackie Barret Named Miss Denton of 1971

Jackie Barret, 19, daughter of Bill and Mrs. Mazurek, won the Miss Denton 1971 scholarship pageant on March 19. An English major at North Texas State University, she performed Carnival of Venice on flute and Stars and Stripes Forever on piccolo, held in a Jaycee pageant with former Miss Denton Phyllis George.

Indians Travel To Goldthwaite For Saturday Track Meet

Coach Fred West and Gene Westmoreland send the Indians to Goldthwaite for a track meet this Saturday. At Rang er they faced strong competition but earned a first, a second, and a sixth. Efferson Elliott won his third straight discus with 139 feet 61 inches, Paul McGettis was second in the mile run at 4 50, and Danny Chisholm took sixth in the shot put at 44 feet.

The Ennis meet schedule has Junior High and High School Maidens traveling to Ennis for the Girls Relays. Junior High won last Saturday in Burleson and aims to repeat. High School tied for third. prelims start 9 30 a m with finals at 3 30 p m on Saturday.

Peanut Growers Hear Wilson at De Leon Meeting

Wilson Ross of the Southern Peanut Growers Association will speak at the Farmers Union meeting in De Leon on Monday March 29. He will discuss tonics to update producers on the peanut program. The meeting begins at 7 30 p.m. in the Soil Conservation Building.

Proctor Area Voters Back Wet Status 158 to 128

In Comanche County Justice Precinct No. 4 Proctor voters favored selling all alcohol for off premises use by 158 to 128 after absentee and poll votes. County records note 27 ballots were challenged by Dry watchmen. wets filed no challenges. Certification by Commissioners Court keeps the tally, with final permits pending state approval and notices published for nine applicants.

Martha Stephens Named New County Home Demonstration Agent

Miss Annie Lucy Lane announced Comanche County will have a new county home demonstration agent effective June 1. Martha Jane Stephens, currently a Comanche High School home economics teacher, has been hired. She previously served as agent in Mills County and taught in Axtell and Palestine. She holds a Baylor University home economics degree from 1962 and is married to Ronnie P. Stephens with two young sons. She resigns as teacher at term end.

Gene Hernandez of Howard Payne College buys Warren's Cafe at 508 W Central and operates as Gene's Restaurant. The Del Rio resident, a HPC political science junior, plans seven days a week hours from 6 AM to 10 PM and to specialize in quality foods.

Revival Set At East Side Baptist Church

East Side Baptist Church Comanche announces a revival from April 4 to 11 with evangelist Rev. Eugene W. Prevo. Morning services run 10 a.m. Monday through Friday, evening prayers at 7 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. worship. Singing will be led by Russell Nance and O. B. Carthen.

Comanche Lions Collect 250 Plus Eyeglasses for CARE

The Comanche Evening Lions Club reports over 250 pairs of eyeglasses gathered in March for CARE. Glasses will be sent to CARE and distributed through sight conservation charities in needy areas. Area residents contributed to the effort, and Ernest Bicbell is noted as club chair.

Restrictions On Swine Movements To Control Hog Cholera

Texas the Animal Health Commission ordered a 60 day restriction on feeder and breeder swine movements effective March 29 with permits required after herd inspections. Slaughter swine may move to markets or slaughterhouses directly. Exhinitions shows require special permission. Cooperation with veterinarians and county agents to inspect farms before shows or sales.
