Voters in Comanche County weigh off premise alcohol issue

Voters in Justice Precinct No. 4 will cast ballots Saturday March 20 on legalizing all alcoholic beverages for off premise consumption only. Graham Lawyer Retained by Proctor Dry Group

Payne Roy a noted Graham lawyer was retained by a group of Comanche County Drys for the March 20 local option election in Justice Precinct No 4. Hearing Set In Comanche ISD Tax Injunction Case

A March 29 hearing in 52nd District Court will decide if a long standing temporary injunction against Comanche Independent School District and its boards becomes permanent. The suit, Levisay Cunningham Ferrill et al v Comanche ISD, arose from claims the district’s tax proposal used unfair appraisal.

Gospel Meeting At North Austin Church of Christ

A gospel meeting will run at the Church of Christ on 605 N Austin St from March 22 for several days. Evangelist Vernon Ripley, formerly of Comanche and now in Lewisville, will lead the services nightly at 7 30 pm with two Sunday sermons at 10 45 am and 7 pm. Board dismisses most Box 13 voter challenges in Comanche County

After a public hearing on March 11 in Proctor, more than 50 voter challenges in Comanche County's Box 13 were dismissed and their registrations left intact. Two challenges were sustained, three were withdrawn, and one was refused. The hearing clarified that the registrar's role is to issue or cancel registrations, while legality of residency claims can be appealed within 30 days.

Prather Robbed In Houston

Floyd Prather, manager of Occidental Chemical, was robbed at the Tidelands Motel in Houston on March 11. A Black intruder posing as room service knocked, fought him, fired a shot that lodged in the wall, then escaped after taking a $35 watch and cash and disabling the room’s telephone lines.

First Hospital Board Named

Bilked Texas dealer loses 3846 in cattle swindle

Texas Ranger George Rogch opened an investigation after Comanche County sheriff's deputies learned 75 year old cattle dealer was bilked of 3846 by two men a white and colored who posed as cow sellers. Tom Bagley of Comanche reported paying cash for 34 cows in pasture near Comanche and left money in a handkerchief before the men disappeared with no cash returned and the cows possibly remaining in pasture.

Comanche County is listed by the Agriculture Department in Washington as under federal quarantine for hog cholera. Peanut price support set at 267 per ton for 1971 crop

The U S Department of Agriculture announced a minimum national average peanut support level of 267 per ton for the 1971 crop, about 75 percent of parity. The 1970 level was 255 per ton and loans and purchases will back the price support with compliance to the 1971 acreage allotment.
