Burleigh, a Union College and University of Nebraska graduate, is a research chemist at the Phillips Synthetic Rubber Plant in Borger.

Funeral Rites Held Here For Mrs. J. F. Banner

Funeral services for Maggie Telitha Banner were held at the Board Church in Comanche County with Rev. Sterling Sham and Rev. T. N. Carter presiding. Burial followed in Board Church Cemetery. She died March 5 in Fort Worth after arriving six hours earlier. survivors include seven children and thirteen grandchildren.

Summers Promoted to Corporal in New Mexico Army

Ira Dorman Summers, son of Mr and Mrs J A Summers of Comanche, was promoted to corporal last week at Alamogordo New Mexico. He is a Sidney High School graduate and formerly worked at Baxters Place in Comanche. American farms produced 118 billion pounds of milk in 1943.

Word received by his wife confirms F D Coker has been promoted to staff sergeant. He is stationed at Camp Claiborne Louisiana and is the son of Mr and Mrs M V Coker. A Comanche High School graduate and former star on the Indian football team.

Mr and Mrs Harry Melowsky of Comanche announce the birth of a daughter Sandra Lee born Friday March 17 at Ste phenville Hospital. The baby weighed seven and one half pounds. Both mother and daughter are doing nicely and are expected to return home this weekend.

Mrs. Doris Hancock Blackmon of Comanche received the Purple Heart posthumously for her husband Pfe. John B. Blackmon at a Dublin American Legion banquet marking the organization’s 25th anniversary. Major Scroggans of Camp Walters presented the medal and speakers lauded the fallen soldier.

Charles “Red” Wheat of De Leon admired in Canada as top bombing instructor at Fingal. The Texan, 32, born to Mr. and Mrs. M D Wheat, has held station records with a 22.8 yard day score and mentored bombardiers with patience and confidence. He trained after joining in 1941, earned wings at Rockcliffe, and faces a second Canada-based anniversary as the war continues.

Wyche Receives Third Oak Leaf Cluster for Air Medal

Ist Lt. Wilton E. Wyche 24 of Gustine Texas earns the third Oak Leaf Cluster to his Air Medal for leading P-38 Lightning missions over Kiel and Frankfurt with the first P-38 group from RAF England. Led by Lt. Col. Jack S. Jenkins the unit protects Fortresses and Liberators. Wyche damaged an ME 109 in air combat and praised for outmaneuvering German fighters while escorting heavy bombers. Wyche’s air service began as a field engineer before enlisting in August 1942.

Miss Ruth Lam Enters Army Nurse Training

Ruth Pauline Lam daughter of Mr and Mrs A A Lam of Comanche has joined the John Seely Hospital in Galveston as part of the United States Cadet Nursing Corps. She will complete a two year course and be graduated as an Army nurse after her training. Lam attended Comanche High School and studied two years at North Texas State Teachers College in Denton.
