The Comanche National Bank, chartered December 19, 1887, was the town's second bank. J. B. Chilton served as president with W. B. Cunningham as cashier, guiding the bank through a long career with only one change in leadership in 1905.
The column highlights Kilick's on the north side as the sole stronghold in the Chief Exponent Paint-Up week. It notes a good front and suggests fewer buildings remain to be painted. It warns that a single slouchy family member can damage city pride and that untidy fronts mar appearances.
A tragic 8 year old girl named Hazel Brooks died when a fire destroyed the Brooks home late Tuesday. The blaze started while she was in the kitchen cooking supper, and flames quickly engulfed the residence as a younger child escaped to safety.
The First National Bank in Comanche chartered September 17 1886 began on the west side of the square near Neely Harris Cunningham Co. It moved to its present location in 1890. F E Adams served as president later guiding growth and leadership in local finance.
Oak Grove closed its session Friday with Miss Mary Kemp as principal and Miss Ruby Bartlett as assistant. After an evening speech by Prof. Holloway a stew dinner followed a basketball win over Sidney 15 to 12. Trustees praise Kemp and want her to continue.
Uncle Burrel Lewis and J. C. Fritts bought blooded short horn cattle at the Fat Stock Show. Both are leading stock raisers in Comanche county and pay top prices, signaling strong investment potential. C. M. Albin also buys and sells cows and offers a fine red service.
